Enzyme activity and reserve mobilization during Macaw palm ( Acrocomia aculeata ) seed germination 39
Bicalho,Elisa Monteze; Motoike,Sérgio Yoshimitsu; Lima e Borges,Eduardo Euclydes de; Ataíde,Glauciana da Mata; Guimarães,Valéria Monteze.
ABSTRACT Reserve mobilization in seeds occurs after visible germination, which is marked by the protrusion of the radicle or cotyledonary petiole, as in species of Arecaceae. Acrocomia aculeata (macaw palm), usually produces hard seeds whose endosperm has mannan-rich cell walls. We investigated the composition of storage compounds in macaw palm seed and the roles of two enzymes (endo-β-mannanase, α-galactosidase) during and after germination. The seeds were firstly submitted to pre-established protocol to overcome dormancy and promote germination. Enzyme activity in both embryo and endosperm were assayed from the initiation of germinative activities until leaf sheath appearance, and the status of seed structures and reserve compounds were evaluated....

Recent developments in microbial oils production: a possible alternative to vegetable oils for biodiesel without competition with human food? 52
Christophe,Gwendoline; Kumar,Vinod; Nouaille,Régis; Gaudet,Geneviève; Fontanille,Pierre; Pandey,Ashok; Soccol,Carlos Ricardo; Larroche,Christian.
Since centuries vegetable oils are consumed as human food but it also finds applications in biodiesel production which is attracting more attention. But due to being in competition with food it could not be sustainable and leads the need to search for alternative. Nowdays microbes-derived oils (single cell oils) seem to be alternatives for biodiesel production due to their similar composition to that of vegetable oils. However, the cold flow properties of the biodiesel produced from microbial oils are unacceptable and have to be modified by an efficient transesterification. Glycerol which is by product of transesterification can be valorised into some more useful products so that it can also be utilised along with biodiesel to simplify the downstream...

Atherosclerosis is a coronary disease where deposition of lipids in the arteries leads to problems of blood circulation. The present work evaluates the action of the flavonoids morin, quercetin and nicotinic acid isolated in association on lipid metabolism in hyperlipidemic rats. Blood serum levels cholesterol, cholesterol-HDL, and triacylglycerids have been analysed following the intraperitoneal administration of the flavonoid compounds dissolved in propyleneglycol by in doses of 5mg/kg body weight. Quercetin presented the largest percentual reduction of cholesterol. The best results for cholesterol-HDL have been obtained with-nicotinic acid alone while morin-nicotinic acid combination showed the best triacylglycerols results. Results showed that...

Our study evaluated how the consumption of diets with low (LOW group - 0.4/1) or high (CON group - 13.6/1) omega-6/omega-3 ratio across generations (F1 and F2) can modulate liver fatty acid (FA) profile and blood biomarkers. Liver content of α-linolenic acid was higher in animals always fed with LOW diet than animals that changed from CON to LOW diet, which by your time was higher than animals always fed with CON diet. Liver saturated FA concentration decreased in both groups from F1 to F2. In conclusion, both diets were efficient in decreasing the saturated FA liver content across generations, the LOW ratio diet was more effective in reducing blood triglycerides and non-esterified fatty acids, and there was a multigenerational effect of the LOW ratio...

Vargas,Flávia Carolina; Arantes-Pereira,Lucas; Costa,Patrícia Argemira da; Melo,Mariza Pires de; Sobral,Paulo José do Amaral.
ABSTRACT Because processing and storage conditions affect several beef quality attributes, the food industry uses a variety of synthetic antioxidants. However, some synthetic antioxidants have been questioned regarding its safety, and thus the interest in using natural antioxidants in food products is increasing. This paper aimed at assessing leaf aqueous extracts of Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis Linnaeus) and Pitanga (Eugenia uniflora Linnaeus) as antioxidants in beef cold storage. After 48h storage, patties added of Rosemary leaf extracts showed increased pH. Patties added of Pitanga extracts had the lowest a* color values. Oxymyoglobin levels were significantly higher for Negative control, than for Pitanga treatment. The 10% extract addition...

Expression analysis for genes involved in arachidonic acid biosynthesis in Mortierella alpina CBS 754.68 58
Samadlouie,Hamid-Reza; Hamidi-Esfahani,Zohreh; Alavi,Seyed-Mehdi; Varastegani,Boshra.
The time courses for production of fungal biomass, lipid, phenolic and arachidonic acid (ARA) as well as expression of the genes involved in biosynthesis of ARA and lipid were examined in Mortierella alpina CBS 754.68. A significant increase in the arachidonic acid content in lipids that coincided with reduced levels of lipid was obtained. Reduced gene expression occurred presumably due to the steady reduction of carbon and nitrogen resources. However, these energy resources were inefficiently compensated by the breakdown of the accumulated lipids that in turn, induced up-regulated expression of the candidate genes. The results further indicated that the expression of the GLELO encoding gene is a rate-limiting step in the biosynthesis of ARA in the early...

Ye,He; Hong,Yu Min; Jing,Song Xiao; Hui,Yang; Juan,Zhang Xiao; Wei,Zhao Yan.
With the widespread use of high-efficiency antiretroviral therapy (HAART), the life expectancy of HIV-infected patients has been significantly extended. However, the metabolic complications among HIV-infected patients treated with HAART have become the most common problem in the world. It is very important to explore the incidence of dyslipidaemia and studies on the role of potential risk factors in HIV-infected Chinese patients treated with HAART are sparse. Therefore, we designed current study, to investigate the effects of therapeutic intervention and continuous information support on the lifestyle of HIV/AIDS patients with dyslipidaemia. Three hundred and six HIV/AIDS patients admitted to the AIDS clinic in Beijing from January 2016 to January 2017...

Alterations in fatty acid composition due to cold exposure at the vegetative stage in rice 61
Cruz,Renata Pereira da; Golombieski,Jaqueline Ineu; Bazana,Maiara Taís; Cabreira,Caroline; Silveira,Taíse Foletto; Silva,Leila Picolli da.
Rice is a tropical plant, so cold temperature may be detrimental to its development, depending on the genotype and environmental conditions. Degree of lipid unsaturation has been related to cold tolerance due to its effect on membrane stability. So, the aim of this study was to characterize the fatty acid composition and its alterations due to cold temperature in rice genotypes of diversified origin. Forty-four rice genotypes at the V4 stage were submitted to two temperature conditions: 10°C and 28°C for two days and after this they had their leaves collected for lipid extraction and quantification. Control plants were allowed to regrow until presenting four leaves fully expanded and then were subjected to 10°C for ten days for cold tolerance evaluation....

Chill-induced changes in fatty acid composition of tonoplast vesicles from hypocotyls of Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. 61
Oliveira,Luciana M. N. de; Sobreira,Alana C. de M.; Monteiro,Fernando de P.; Melo,Dirce F. de.
The present study was undertaken to investigate the changes induced by chilling on fatty acid composition of tonoplast vesicles from hypocotyls of Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. The 7 day-old control seedlings were grown at 25°C while treated seedlings were submitted to low temperatures (10°C and 4°C) for 4 days after 3 days germination. The chilling stress resulted in a differential inhibition of plant growth at 10°C and 4°C. Following chilling at 10°C and 4°C, the rate of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids increased under chilling stress. Our results suggest that the increase of unsaturated fatty acids content as well as the higher rate unsaturated/saturate fatty acidsmight be used by V. unguiculata plants as an adaptation mechanism likely to maintain...

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the addition of Moringa oleifera Lam. seed flour for partial fat replacement in chicken mortadella on physicochemical characteristics, chemical composition, and lipid oxidation. Four mortadellas were prepared: C (control), T1, T3, and T5 (addition of 1%, 3%, and 5% of moringa seed flour, respectively). T5 mortadella had the lowest lipid content (p < 0.05), whereas C mortadella had the highest (p < 0.05). The addition of 5% of moringa seed flour affected color parameters, leading to an increase in L*, a*, and b* values in comparison with the control. Color changes (ΔE) in T3 and T5 mortadellas were the lowest among the samples during a 90-day storage period at 4 °C. The addition of 3...

Comparative transcriptome analysis of the hippocampus from sleep-deprived and Alzheimer’s disease mice 74
Wei,Yi.
Abstract We did a comparative analysis of the gene expression profiles of the hippocampus from sleep deprivation and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) mice. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by comparing the transcriptome profiles of the hippocampus of sleep deprivation or AD mouse models to matched controls. The common DEGs between sleep deprivation and AD were identified by the overlapping analysis, followed by Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses. The results showed that a total of 16 common DEGs showed similar change patterns in both sleep deprivation mice and AD mice. Sgk1, Ly6a, Atp6v0e, Hspb8, Htra1, Pdk4, Pfkfb3, Golm1, and Plin3 were up-regulated in the two disorders, whereas, Marcksl1, Fgd1,...

Deslous-paoli, Jean-marc; Heral, Maurice.
Caloric values of the ash-free dried sofkt parts of Crassostrea gigas have been characterized, according to season using a microcalorimeter and biochemical composition. This study shows the difference between the two methods. A conversation factor (8,63 kcal-gr(-1) has been determined for lipid of pacific oyster. Thix work shows that reproduction implies a loss of energy (53% to 63%) for non juvenile oysters. The increase of energetic level necessary to growth is more important for juvenile oysters and is upper than what is lost for reproduction.

Comparative proteomics reveals proteins impacted by nitrogen deprivation in wild-type and high lipid-accumulating mutant strains of Tisochrysis lutea 5
Garnier, Matthieu; Carrier, Gregory; Rogniaux, Helene; Nicolau, Elodie; Bougaran, Gael; Saint-jean, Bruno; Cadoret, Jean-paul.
Understanding microalgal lipid accumulation under nitrogen starvation is of major interest for biomass feedstock, food and biofuel production. Using a domesticated oleaginous algae Tisochrysis lutea, we performed the first comparative proteomic analysis on the wild type strain and a selected lipid over-accumulating mutant. 2-DE analysis was made on these strains cultured in two metabolic conditions, with and without nitrogen deprivation, which revealed significant differences in proteomes according to both strain and nitrogen availability. Mass spectrometry allowed us to identify 37 proteins that were differentially expressed between the two strains, and 17 proteins regulated by nitrogen starvation concomitantly with lipid accumulation. The proteins...
