Lao Taek is a traditional glutinous rice variety being grown by farmers in the northeast and some parts in the north of Thailand. It becomes popular because of its ability to give high yield, which related to high number of grains per panicle and high number of panicles per hill. It is questionable that Lao Taek might have genetic diversity among different growing areas. Collection of 6 genetic stocks from Ubon Ratchathani, Yasothorn, Sakon Nakorn and Nan were conducted during 2008-2010.
