CALIBRATION OF THE THERMAL DISSIPATION PROBE FOR ATEMOYA: (Annona squamosa x A. cherimola) REA
Santos,Irai M. S.; Vellame,Lucas M.; Araújo,Jairton F.; Marinho,Lígia B..
ABSTRACT When determining plant transpiration (TR) using the thermal dissipation probe method, it is necessary to calibrate the sap flow (SF) estimation equation for each species under study, and thus obtain reliable information about the water demand of crops. This study aims to calibrate the equation used to determine SF using the thermal dissipation probe for atemoya cultivation. The experiment was conducted in the experimental field of the Universidade do Estado da Bahia, Juazeiro, Northeast Brazil. Atemoya plants in the initial phase of development were transplanted into 21.5-l pots arranged on weighing platforms that acted as lysimeters. The SF was determined by the thermal dissipation probe method using 1-cm-long probes. The angular coefficient of...

Water use and crop coefficient of subsurface drip-irrigated lettuce in Central Arizona AGRIAMBI
Oliveira,Aureo S. de; Martin,Edward C.; Slack,Donald C.; Pegelow,Edward J.; Folta,Allen D..
A two year field study (1996/97 and 1997/98 growing seasons) was carried out at the Maricopa Agricultural Center (33º04'07" N; 111º57'18" W) of the University of Arizona, USA, to investigate the water use and to derive Kc's for subsurface drip-irrigated head lettuce grown in small weighable lysimeters. Measurement periods ranged from 480 to 1100 ºC-day (96/97) and from 439 to 1098 ºC-day (97/98). These intervals corresponded essentially to the second half of the crop cycle which amounted to a 1100 ºC-day, on average. The lysimeters were weighed periodically and the computation of the water balance revealed an average water use of 117 mm. Basal crop Kc was expressed as a function of cumulative growing degree days following a multiple linear regression...

Estimatation of evapotranspiration and crop coefficient of melon cultivated in protected environment AGRIAMBI
Lozano,Cláudia S.; Rezende,Roberto; Freitas,Paulo S. L. de; Hachmann,Tiago L.; Santos,Fernando A. S.; Andrean,André F. B. A..
ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to determine the water consumption and the crop coefficient of melon in a protected environment. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the Technical Center of Irrigation of the State University of Maringá, in Maringá, PR. The melon hybrid used was Sunrise and the irrigations were performed daily by drip irrigation. Crop water requirement was quantified based on its evapotranspiration directly measured through constant water table lysimeters. Weather information was collected in an automatic weather station, installed inside the protected environment, which allowed to calculate the reference evapotranspiration by the Penman-Monteith method. The total water consumption of the melon crop was 295 mm, reaching...

African Mahogany transpiration with Granier method and water table lysimeter AGRIAMBI
Sérvulo,Ana C. O.; Vellame,Lucas M.; Casaroli,Derblai; Alves Júnior,José; Souza,Pedro H. de.
ABSTRACT The thermal dissipation probe (Granier method) is useful in the water deficit monitoring and irrigation management of African Mahogany, but its model needs proper adjustment. This paper aimed to adjust and validate the Granier sap flux model to estimate African Mahogany transpiration, measure transpiration using lysimeter and relate it to atmospheric water demand. Weather conditions, transpiration and sap flux were monitored in three units of 2.5-year-old African Mahogany trees in constant water table lysimeter, in Goiânia, GO. Sapwood area (SA), leaf area (LA), transpiration measured by lysimeter (TLYS) and estimated by sap flux (TSF) were evaluated. The SA comprised 55.24% of the trunk’s transversal section. The LA varied from 11.95 to 10.66 m2....

Water relations and photosynthesis as criteria for adequate irrigation management in 'Tahiti' lime trees Scientia Agricola
Silva,Cláudio Ricardo da; Folegatti,Marcos Vinícius; Silva,Tonny José Araújo da; Alves Júnior,José; Souza,Claudinei Fonseca; Ribeiro,Rafael Vasconcelos.
Irrigation scheduling based on soil moisture status is one of the most useful methods because of its practicality and low cost. The effects of available soil water depletion on evapotranspiration (ETc), transpiration (E), leaf water potential at predawn (psiP) and midday (psiM), stomatal conductance (gs) and net CO2 assimilation (A) in lime 'Tahiti' trees (Citrus latifolia) were evaluated to improve irrigation schedule and minimize water use without causing water stress. The trees were spaced 7 ´ 4 m and drip-irrigated by four drippers with the available soil water content (AWC) depleted by suspension of irrigation (40 days). Leaf water potential was measured on a pressure chamber (psiP and psiM) and leaf gas exchange...

Field determintation of young acid lime plants transpiration by the stem heat balance method Scientia Agricola
Coelho Filho,Maurício Antonio; Angelocci,Luiz Roberto; Campeche,Luís Fernando de Souza Magno; Folegatti,Marcos Vinícius; Bernardes,Marcos Silveira.
The stem heat balance method (HBM) measures sap flow (SF) in plants, and can be used to estimate daily transpiration flow. It is a powerful technique for water relations and irrigation field studies, but it has to be tested in species of particular interest. This paper discusses effectiveness of the HBM to estimate transpiration of young acid lime plants (Citrus latifolia Tan. cv. Tahiti), grafted on citrumelo cv. Swingle (Poncirus trifoliata Raf. x C. paradisi Macf.), in the field using commercial gauges (model SAG10-ws, Dynamax Inc., Huston), in Piracicaba, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. SF was correlated to transpiration determined by weighing lysimeters and by a steady-state null-balance porometer. The mean ratio between daily values of SF and lysimetric...

Empirical Model of a Vertisol Evaporation as Tool for Management of Soil Practicability using Portable Lysimetric Station under Arid Land Context CIGR Journal
El Aissaoui, Abdellah; Yassine, Almasmoudi.
Soil compaction caused by traffics is commonly considered as one of the major’s problems in agriculture. Moisture content have a significant effect on amplifying soil compaction. This study aims to approach evaporation trend of a vertisol (40.47% clay, 39.30% loam and 20.23% sand) having an organic matter content of 1.5% in order to manage timing of its plasticity as a determinant factor inducing compaction created by the traffic of machines. A portable lysimetric measurement system was developed to evaluate soil evaporation trend. An empirical soil evaporation model was developed using three measurement campaigns according to different temperature and irradiance behaviors. Soil moisture content was evaluated with two sensors using conductivity and...

Methods to Estimate Lettuce Evapotranspiration in Greenhouse Conditions in the Central Zone of Chile Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Casanova P,Manuel; Messing,Ingmar; Joel,Abraham; Cañete M,Alberto.
This study evaluates five methods to estimate crop evapotranspiration in greenhouse conditions. It compares their performance in relation to the evapotranspiration directly determined from water balance measurements (ETlys) in an irrigated lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) crop during 9 weeks. Daily values of the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) from Class A pan (CAP), Piche atmometers (ATM), Andersson evaporimeters (ANE), FAO-Radiation (FRE) and FAO-Penman-Monteith (PME) equations were compared. The methods showed similar temporal variations but at different ranges as follows: ANE < CAP < FRE < PME < ATM. Furthemore, ETo had a clear correlation with solar radiation. Crop coefficients (Kc = ETlys/ETo) varied somewhat amongst the methods, but trends...
