| The investigation is based on data collected between the eastern Algerian Basin and the Strait of Sicily and in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea. The major pathways of water masses are identified by the core method and geostrophic currents are derived from the objectively analysed density field. Between the Sardinia Channel and the Strait of Sicily, the large-scale circulation of Modified Atlantic Water and Winter Intermediate Water is found to be cyclonic. Inflow into the gyre occurs via the Sardinia Channel by means of a boundary current attached to the Algerian coast, and from the northern Tyrrhenian. | The laying out of an offshore site in the gulf of Lion has been realized by immersion of concrete structures in 1985. Two complementary studies have been conducted in order to estimate the impact of such artificiel reef. Gillnet fishery surveys have been done in the vicinity of the structures and also on a control site. Moreover the local profcssional fishery has been investigated for two periods of 16 months, one berore and one arter the reef immersion. The results of the gillnet surveys have already been submitted to publication and the present study displays the investigations concerning the local fishery. | Mud blisters related to the Parasite worm Polydora or to the presence of TBT in the Thau Basin waters depreciate the market value of the oysters produced in this lagoon. A solution to this problem was searched by immersing during 1 to 3 months the oysters in the open sea before being marketed, this shell improvment operation being called "affinage en mer". | Depuis une vingtaine d'années, l'Ifremer organise des campagnes de pêche scientifique en mer du Nord, Manche, Atlantique et Méditerranée concernant les ressources pélagiques, démersales et benthiques. L'objectif prioritaire est de produire des indices d'abondance des principales espèces commerciales. Elles recueillent également des données sur les espèces capturées non commerciales. Les campagnes sont réalisées selon des plans d'échantillonnage standardisés. L'engin de pêche et son gréement, la position des stations, le tri des captures, les prélèvements biologiques suivent des protocoles fixés.
