The First ODINAFRICA Training Course on Marine Information Management was held in Cape Town, South Africa, kindly hosted by Marine and Coastal Management at the Research Aquarium, Sea Point. Seventeen out of twenty ODINAFRICA countries were ale to send a participant. The course included theoretical lectures on Information Management as well as a practical hands-on course on the use of the Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) INMAGIC for Libraries which was identified by the IODE Steering Group for the Resource Kit (Miami, March 2001) as a suitable software for this purpose. Discussions were also held on the results of an institutional survey filled by the participants during the course. |

During the Twenty-fifth Session of the IOC Executive Council (Paris, 10- 18 March 1992), China made an offer to "host and help organize a training course on marine information management and ASFA as an IOC-TEMA activity". IOC welcomed the offer and decided to hold such a training course. In response to this decision, the Training Course on Marine Information Management and ASFA was held in Tianjin, China from 19-30 October 1992. The First ODINCARSA Training Course in Marine Information Management was held in Mazatlan, Mexico, kindly hosted by the ‘Unidad Académica Mazatlán del Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnologia, U.N.A.M.’. The Training Course was attended by 17 participants from 13 countries including Argentina, The Bahamas, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Saint Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago. The Group of Experts on Marine Information Management (GE-MIM) met recently at the IODE Project Office in Oostende, Belgium (17-20 September 2007). The Group discussed a wide rang of topics and issues on marine information management and marine libraries. The Group decided to focus on clear actions that can be achieved within an inter-sessional period of one year, a it is hoped to hold GEMIM-X in September 2008. |
