First remarks on the nesting biology of Hypodynerus andeus (Packard) (Hymenoptera, Vespidae, Eumeninae) in the Azapa valley, northern Chile. Some aspects about the nesting biology of the potter wasp Hypodynerus andeus (Packard, 1869) are reported for the first time. Observations were carried out at the Azapa valley, coastal desert of northern Chile. A total of sixty nests were collected and examined, each composed by 1-14 cells, most of them found attached to concrete lamp posts. The only preys recorded in the cells were Geometridae (Lepidoptera) caterpillars and the presence of the parasitoid Anthrax sp. (Diptera, Bombyliidae) was also recorded. A number of arthropods belonging to different groups, mainly spiders, were found occupying empty nests. |

The Anthidiini, in South America, is represented by a single genus Anthidium Fabricius, 1804 (type-species: Apis manicata Linnaeus, 1758). Thirty nine species are treated in this paper, as follows: Anthidium alsinai Urban, 2001; A. andinum Joergensen, 1912; A. anurospilum Moure, 1957 nom. reval. (formerly = A. espinosai Ruiz, 1938); A. atricaudum Cockerell, 1926; A. aymara Toro & Rodríguez, 1998; A. chilense Spinola, 1851; A. chubuti Cockerell, 1910; A. colliguayanum Toro & Rojas, 1970; A. cuzcoense Schrottky, 1910; A. danieli Urban, 2001; A. decaspilum Moure, 1957; A. deceptum... |

Rhynosielis, gen.n. is proposed as new genus for Anthidium multiplicaium Smith, 1879. It has in commom wilh Hoplostelis a strong basal tooth on upper border of mandibles. Main differences with Hoplostelis are: mandibular shape, configuration of mandibular teeth on apical border, a rounded tubercule on upper clypear third, mesoscutum posteriorly bigibbous, scutellum transverse-bigibbous, preepisternal carina laminate and almost complete, basal portion of propodeum without foveae and a median carina on last three terga. |

In the collection of Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, there are specimens from Schrottky's collection which constitute the sintypes of some of the species of Anthidium that he described in 1910. Studying this genus, it is pertinent to designate the Lectotypes of these species, as follows: Anthidium cuzcoense Schrottky, 1910; Anthidium garleppi Schrottky, 1910; Anthidium nigerrimum Schrottky, 1910; Anthidium patagonicum Schrottky, 1910, and Anthidium peruvianum Schrottky, 1910. The lectotype of Anthidium kuscheli Moure, 1957, deposited in the collection of Departamento de Zoologia, Universidade Federal do Paraná, Curitiba, is also here designated. |
