Qualidade da classificação automática de imagens de sensoriamento remoto em trabalhos apresentados nas edições anteriores do SBSR. 119
SCHULTZ, B.; LUIZ, A. J. B.; SANCHES, I. D. A.; FORMAGGIO, A. R..
Abstract: A study has been carried out considering 18 years of papers published in the Simpósio Brasileiro de Sensoriamento Remoto (Brazilian Remote Sensing Symposium) related to the subject of satellite image classification. The aim of the study was to assess the degree of progress made in thematic mapping through developments in classification algorithms, different approaches (per-pixel or object-based) and methods (unsupervised and supervised). The result of 238 reported classification experiments were quantitatively analyzed through Kappa Index (KI) results. Several parameters were used to relate the experiments, as type of approach, method, number of samples and classes, used sensor system, etc. Overall, the results showed that no significant...

Wheat blast, caused by Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT) lineage, is a major constraint to wheat production, mainly in the tropics of Brazil where severe epidemics have been more frequent. We analyzed disease and wheat yield data from uniform field trials conducted during nine years (2012 to 2020) in order to assess whether the percent control and yield response were influenced by fungicide type, region (tropical or subtropical), and year. Six treatments were selected, all evaluated in at least 19 trials. Two ungicides were applied as solo active ingredients: MANCozeb, and TEBUconazole, and four were premixes: AZOXystrobin + TEBU, TriFLoXystrobin + PROThioconazole, TFLX + TEBU, and PYRAclostrobin + EPOXiconazole. Percent control, calculated from back-...

Practical application of the sign test on data from trial and meta-analysis. 119
LUIZ, A. J. B.; COSTA, A. da R.; BATISTA, E. R.; FRIGHETTO, R. T. S..
Many practical situations faced in agricultural research does not allow assuming the normality of the data to be analyzed. In some of these situations, the researcher, not statistical, want to test hypotheses with minimal statistical security, but finds himself in trouble by not dominate approaches that require deeper knowledge in that discipline. The sign test has a very strong appeal for interpretability of results and is often sufficient for decision-making on the further direction of research or analysis. In this paper, we present two examples of application and interpretation of the test in the form available at Univariate routine SAS, one for data obtained for phosphorus content of the meta-analysis of available soil in areas under different forms of...

Are DMI+QoI Fungicide Premixes During flowering Worthwhile for Fusarium head blight Control in Wheat? A Meta-analysis. 119
BARRO, J. P.; SANTANA, F. M.; DUFFECK, M. R.; MACHADO, F. J.; LAU, D.; SBALCHEIRO, C. C.; SCHIPANSKI, C. A.; CHAGAS. D. F.; VENANCIO, W. S.; DALLAGNOL, L. J.; GUTERRES, C. W.; KUHNEM, P.; FEKSA, H. R.; DEL PONTE, E, M..
Fusarium head blight (FHB), caused mainly by Fusarium graminearum, is best controlled with demethylation inhibitor (DMI) fungicides during flowering. However, the use of premixes of DMI and quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) fungicides to control FHB has increased in Brazil. Data on FHB severity and wheat yields measured in field experiments conducted in Brazil were gathered from both peer- and non-peer-reviewed sources published from 2000 to 2018. After applying selection criteria, 73 field trials from 35 bibliographic sources were identified, among which 50% of the data were obtained from cooperative network trials conducted after 2011. To be included in the analysis, a DMI+QoI premixes or tebuconazole (TEB) were tested in at least 14 trials and three...

N2O emission factors for nitrogen fertilizers and animal excreta in pastures: a meta-analysis for Brazil. 119
PENTEADO, L. F.; NOGUEIRA, S. F.; ANDRADE, C. A. de; RAMOS, N. P.; PAZIANOTTO, R. A. A.; GAROFALO, D. T..
Between 1985 and 2020, Brazil increased its pasture area by 38%, from 111 to 154 million hectares. In turn, N2O emissions from the agriculturallivestock sector in 2016 accounted for 87% of the total emissions of this gas in the country. The determination of N2O EF in national inventories is carried out using the values recommended by the IPCC, but there are limitations, since a default N2O EF is used for diverse nitrogen fertilizers, in different situations of livestock practices and edaphoclimatic conditions. This standardization of the EF, mainly for a country like Brazil with continental dimensions and with great edaphoclimatic diversity, can lead to future mistakes in the dimensioning of the N2O emissions caused by national livestock. Therefore, this...

META-ANALYSIS OF THE HISTORY OF THE STUDY OF THE FRESHWATER TURTLE AND TORTOISE FAUNA OF COLOMBIA 37
BOCK,Brian C; PÁEZ,Vivian P.
ABSTRACT The citations contained in a recent literature review on the freshwater turtle and tortoise species of Colombia were analyzed. Publishing rates on these species have been increasing exponentially since the 1950s, although many of the publications would not be detected using internet-based literature searches. The most common topics of publications were systematics and phylogeography, nesting ecology, and management. In the 1970s and 1980s, the rate of publishing on the ecology and genetics of Colombian populations lagged behind the rate of publishing on these topics for populations of Colombian freshwater turtle and tortoise species located in other countries, but currently the production of the two regions is comparable. Also, in other countries...

Mesothelin as a biomarker for ovarian carcinoma: a meta-analysis 42
MADEIRA,KRISTIAN; DONDOSSOLA,EDUARDO R.; FARIAS,BRUNA F. DE; SIMON,CARLA S.; ALEXANDRE,MARIA C.M.; SILVA,BRUNO R.; ROSA,MARIA INÊS.
The objective of this work was to estimate the accuracy of mesothelin as a biomarker for ovarian cancer. A quantitative systematic review was performed. A comprehensive search of the Medline, LILACS, SCOPUS, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Biomed Central, and ISI Web of Science databases was conducted from January 1990 to June 2015. For inclusion in this systematic review, the papers must have measured mesothelin levels in at least two histological diagnoses; ovarian cancer (borderline or ovarian tumor) vs. benign or normal ovarian tissue. For each study, 2 x 2 contingency tables were constructed. We calculated the sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic odds ratio. The verification bias was performed according to QUADAS-2....

Discrepancy variation of dinucleotide microsatellite repeats in eukaryotic genomes 48
GAO,HUAN; CAI,SHENGLI; YAN,BINLUN; CHEN,BAIYAO; YU,FEI.
To address whether there are differences of variation among repeat motif types and among taxonomic groups, we present here an analysis of variation and correlation of dinucleotide microsatellite repeats in eukaryotic genomes. Ten taxonomic groups were compared, those being primates, mammalia (excluding primates and rodentia), rodentia, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles, insects, molluscs, plants and fungi, respectively. The data used in the analysis is from the literature published in the Journal of Molecular Ecology Notes. Analysis of variation reveals that there are no significant differences between AC and AG repeat motif types. Moreover, the number of alleles correlates positively with the copy number in both AG and AC repeats. Similar conclusions...

Historical and current approaches of research synthesis in plant sciences 51
Aguilar,Ramiro.
The progress of science has depended to a great extent on the ability of reaching general conclusions from a body of published research, making reviews essential to scientific development. Research reviews have provided the bases for conceptual syntheses and for development of general theories in many research areas of the natural sciences, as in the case of plant sciences. Historical approaches include narrative and "vote-counting" types of reviews, both of which present serious flaws that limit their ability to obtain robust generalizations. Currently, quantitative reviews such as metaanalyses are able to synthesize results from independent studies in a manner that is both objective and statistically defensible. Meta-analysis has been used to synthesize...

Is the relationship between population density and body size consistent across independent studies? A meta-analytical approach 57
BINI,L. M.; COELHO,A. S. G; DINIZ-FILHO,J. A. F..
The Energetic Equivalence Rule (EER) is a controversial issue in ecology. This rule states that the amount of energy that each species uses per unit of area is independent of its body size. Here, we perform a meta-analytical procedure to combine and compare the slopes of population density and body size relationships across independent studies of mammals and birds. We then compared a distribution of 50,000 bootstrap combined slopes with the expected slope (b = -0.75) under the EER. The combined slopes obtained for mammals and birds separately were -0.755 and -0.321, respectively. The homogeneity hypothesis (i. e. within studies the slopes differ by no more than would be expected due sampling variation) was rejected in both cases. So, EER cannot be...

Majidiani,Hamidreza; Dalvand,Sahar; Daryani,Ahmad; Galvan-Ramirez,Ma de la Luz; Foroutan-Rad,Masoud.
ABSTRACT Introduction: The global protozoan parasite, Toxoplasma gondii, infects many warm-blooded animals and humans by employing different transmission routes. There have been some recent studies on the probable relevance of infectious agents and diabetes. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify the possible association between chronic toxoplasmosis and diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study was conducted following the general methodology recommended for systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Nine English literature databases (Google scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Web of science, Science Direct, Ovid, ProQuest, IngentaConnect, and Wiley Online Library) were searched, up to January 2016. Random effects model was used to...

Sulbactam-based therapy for Acinetobacter baumannii infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis 55
Chu,Haiqing; Zhao,Lan; Wang,Minggui; Liu,Yang; Gui,Tao; Zhang,Jingbo.
BACKGROUND: A number of studies have reported on the effectiveness of sulbactam-based therapies for Acinetobacter baumannii infection; however, there is little evidence that sulbactam-based therapies are more or less effective than alternative therapies. Unfortunately, there is a distinct lack of high quality data (i.e., from randomized controlled trials) available on this issue. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing the efficacy of sulbactam-based and non-sulbactam-based regimens in the treatment of A. baumannii infection. METHODS: We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, Biomedical Central, Google Scholar, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Cochrane library, and the Directory of Open Access using the terms "sulbactam...

Association between tumor necrosis factor polymorphisms and rheumatoid arthritis as well as systemic lupus erythematosus: a meta-analysis 56
Chen,Lin; Huang,Zhuochun; Liao,Yun; Yang,Bin; Zhang,Junlong.
Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) plays an important role in autoimmune diseases. Previous studies have investigated the association of TNF-α-238G/A (rs361525) and -308G/A (rs1800629) polymorphisms with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, no agreed conclusion had been made. Therefore, this meta-analysis was conducted to assess the associations of TNF-α-238G/A and -308G/A polymorphisms with RA and SLE risk. A systematic search was conducted in commonly used databases. Meta-analysis was performed by STATA12.0. A total of 43 studies were included. In the overall population, the TNF-α-238A allele was observed to be a protective factor for RA (A vs G: OR=0.75, 95%CI=0.57–0.99, P=0.040) and the TNF-α-308A allele was found...
