Myrtaceae, a cache of fungal biodiversity Naturalis
Cheewangkoon, R.; Groenewald, J.Z.; Summerell, B.A.; Hyde, K.D.; To-anun, C.; Crous, P.W..
Twenty-six species of microfungi are treated, the majority of which are associated with leaf spots of Corymbia, Eucalyptus and Syzygium spp. (Myrtaceae). The treated species include three new genera, Bagadiella, Foliocryphia and Pseudoramichloridium, 20 new species and one new combination. Novelties on Eucalyptus include: Antennariella placitae, Bagadiella lunata, Cladoriella rubrigena, C. paleospora, Cyphellophora eucalypti, Elsinoë eucalypticola, Foliocryphia eucalypti, Leptoxyphium madagascariense, Neofabraea eucalypti, Polyscytalum algarvense, Quambalaria simpsonii, Selenophoma australiensis, Sphaceloma tectificae, Strelitziana australiensis and Zeloasperisporium eucalyptorum. Stylaspergillus synanamorphs are reported for two species of...

Microcyclospora and Microcyclosporella: novel genera accommodating epiphytic fungi causing sooty blotch on apple Naturalis
Frank, J.; Crous, P.W.; Groenewald, J.Z.; Oertel, B.; Hyde, K.D.; Phengsintham, P.; Schroers, H.-J..
Recent studies have found a wide range of ascomycetes to be associated with sooty blotch and flyspeck (SBFS) blemishes on the surfaces of pomaceous fruits, specifically apples. Based on collections of such fungi from apple orchards in Germany and Slovenia we introduce two novel genera according to analyses of morphological characters and nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences (large subunit and internal transcribed spacer regions). Microcyclosporella is represented by a single species, M. mali, and is presently known from Germany and Slovenia. Microcyclosporella is Pseudocercosporella-like in morphology, but genetically and morphologically distinct from Pseudocercosporella s.str., for which an epitype is designated based on a fresh collection of P. bakeri from...

Dissoconiaceae associated with sooty blotch and flyspeck on fruits in China and the United States Naturalis
Li, H.Y.; Sun, G.Y.; Zhai, X.R.; Batzer, J.C.; Mayfield, D.A.; Crous, P.W.; Groenewald, J.Z.; Gleason, M.L..
Zasmidium angulare, a novel species of Mycosphaerellaceae, and several novel taxa that reside in Dissoconiaceae, were identified from a collection of apples and Cucurbita maxima (cv. Blue Hubbard) from China and the USA that exhibited sooty blotch and flyspeck (SBFS) signs on their host substrata. Morphology on fruit surfaces and in culture, and phylogenetic analyses of the nuclear ribosomal DNAs 28S and internal transcribed spacer regions, as well as partial translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene sequences in some cases, were used to delineate seven previously unidentified species and three known species. Pseudoveronaea was established as a new genus of Dissoconiaceae, represented by two species, P. ellipsoidea and P. obclavata. Although...

Two Speiropsis species (Anamorphic Fungi - Hyphomycetes) from Bahia State, Brazil Acta Botanica
Barbosa,Fabio Fernandes; Gusmão,Luís Fernando Pascholati.
During a survey of the microfungi associated with dead leaves of native plants in the State of Bahia, two species of Speiropsis were found: S. pedatospora Tubaki and S. scopiformis Kuthub. & Nawawi. Descriptions, illustrations, comments, geographical distribution and a compared table with taxonomic characteristics of the Speiropsis species are present. S. pedatospora is the first record for Brazil.
