Identification of subclinical mastitis caused by Mycoplasma spp. from screenings of bulk tanks Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Joaquim,S.F.; Guimarães,F.F.; Salina,A.; Junqueira,N.B.; Gomes,E.N.; Langoni,H..
ABSTRACT Mastitis caused by Mycoplasma spp., regardless of species, are considered highly contagious pathogens and, usually was not responsive to antimicrobial therapy. Five dairy herds, comprising 489 animals and 1,956 mammary glands, were used in this study. Milk samples were obtained from bulk tanks and subjected to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the identification of Mollicutes, Mycoplasma spp., and Mycoplasma bovis. Moreover, individual samples from cases of clinical and subclinical mastitis in quarters of the dairy herds’ animals that yielded a positive PCR upon bulk tank analysis were subjected to molecular analysis. Only one bulk tank was positive for class Mollicutes by PCR. All positive samples classified as mastitis teats had their DNA...

Santos,Geraldo Tadeu dos; Modesto,Elisa Cristina; Souza,Nilson Evelázio de; Ítavo,Luís Carlos Vinhas; Jobim,Clóves Cabreira; Kazama,Daniele Cristina da Silva; Valloto,Altair Antônio; Massuda,Ely Mitie.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of corn silage (CS) replacement by cassava's foliage silage (CFS) on the production and quality of milk. Twelve lactating dairy cows were used in a randomized block experimental design with four treatments and three repetitions per block. CS was replaced by CFS at the levels of 0, 20, 40, and 60%. The replacement of CS by different levels of CFS had very low effect on the variables studied. Milk density decreased when the replacement level was increased. Fatty acids 4:0 and 6:0 presented a quadratic behavior, while fat acids 8:0, 10:0, and 15:0 presented a linear behavior as their concentrations fell when CFS diet content was increased. The CS replacement by 20% until 60% CFS resulted a significant decrease in the...

Association of TLR4 polymorphisms with subclinical mastitis in Brazilian holsteins BJM
Mesquita,Adriano Queiroz de; Rezende,Cintia Silva Minafra e; Mesquita,Albenones José de; Jardim,Eurione Antonio Garcia da Veiga; Kipnis,Ana Paula Junqueira.
The identification of dairy cows with greater or lower potential to develop mastits has been pursued for many years among different segments of the milk industry, including governmental organizations. Genomic studies have suggested that Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) within the pattern recognition receptors (PRR) could lead to different responses to pathogens, and consequently result in mastitis resistance or susceptibility. To investigate whether toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) gene is associated with subclinical mastitis in Holstein cows from a property in the state of Goiás, Brazil, TaqMan allelic discrimination and somatic cell count were performed. One hundred and fifty milk samples were analyzed for SCC and centesimal composition. Twenty percent...

Convenient genotyping of nine bovine K-casein variants Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Pacheco Contreras,Víctor I; Lourenco Jaramillo,Diana L; Parra Bracamonte,Gaspar M; Martínez González,Juan C; Sifuentes Rincón,Ana M.
K-casein gene polymorphisms are of major importance in the dairy industry due to their association with different quality and productive traits (i.e., milk protein). Several methods for genotyping this gene have been proposed; however, none are focused on the simultaneous discrimination of nine K-casein variants. A strategy based on PCR-RFLP was designed to characterize nine K-casein variants (A, B, C, E, F², G, H, I and J) and used to genotype three cattle populations: Gyrholando (3/8 Gyr x 5/8 Holstein), Charolais and Carora. The B variant was the most frequent in the Charolais and Carora breeds, with allelic frequencies of 0.60 and 0.59, respectively. In the Gyrholando breed, four variants were found, with the A variant being the most frequent and E and...
