Mineral supplementation stimulates the immune system and antioxidant responses of dairy cows and reduces somatic cell counts in milk Anais da ABC (AABC)
WARKEN,AMANDA C.; LOPES,LEANDRO S.; BOTTARI,NATHIELI B.; GLOMBOWSKY,PATRÍCIA; GALLI,GABRIELA M.; MORSCH,VERA M.; SCHETINGER,MARIA ROSA C.; SILVA,ALEKSANDRO S. DA.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the use of subcutaneous mineral supplementation would affect metabolic parameters, immunological response, milk quality and composition of dairy cows in the postpartum period. Twelve pregnant primiparous Holstein cows, were divided into two groups: six animals supplemented with the mineral complex (magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, selenium and copper), and six animals used as controls. Milk samples were collected every two other weeks postpartum up to sixty days of lactation to analyze composition and quality. Blood samples were collected, and the levels of ketone bodies, total proteins, glucose, albumin, and globulin were measured. The catalase and superoxide enzymes, reactive oxygen species, tumor...

Evaluation of an inexpensive needle test for the diagnosis of phosphorus deficiency and management of phosphorus supplementation for cattle: A multiple case study Anais da ABC (AABC)
MALAFAIA,PEDRO; GARCIA,FELIPE Z.; LOPES,SAMARA P.; SOUZA,VINÍCIUS C.; CANELLA FILHO,CAMILLO F.C.; COSTA,DIOGO F.A.; VEIGA,CRISTIANO C.P..
ABSTRACT The needle test (NT) is a point-of-care test developed in Brazil to evaluate the Phosphorus (P) status in cattle. Based on bone resistance, the NT is a very inexpensive method which allows the diagnosis of any degree of P deficiency in a fast and simple way in vivo and directly on farm. The NT measures three levels of resistance in the transverse process (TP) of the lumbar vertebrae: a) TP that are impenetrable and result in warping of the needle (P healthy animals); b) TP offering some resistance to the penetration (animals with subclinical P deficiency); and c) TP which has minimal resistance to penetration (clinical P deficiency). This manuscript presents results from a series of case studies to evaluate the hypothesis that the NT could be used...

Suplementacao mineral para vacas de cria no Pantanal Mato-Grossense. Infoteca-e
AFONSO, E.; CATTO, J. B.; POTT, E. B.; COMASTRI FILHO, J. A..

Effect of organic mineral supplementation on the egg quality of semi-heavy layers in their second cycle of lay Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Saldanha,ESPB; Garcia,EA; Pizzolante,CC; Faittarone,ABG; Sechinato,A da; Molino,AB; Laganá,C.
This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of dietary trace mineral levels and sources on egg quality parameters of second-cycle semi-heavy layers. A number of 360 72-week-old layers were submitted to forced molting. Upon return of lay (83 weeks of age), birds were distributed according to a completely randomized experimental design of six treatments with six replicates of 10 birds each. The control treatment consisted of 0.10% dietary supplementation of trace minerals from inorganic sources, which was proportionally replaced by five levels (110, 100, 90, 80, 70%) of an organic trace mineral supplement containing 30, 30, 40, 6, 0.61, and 0.3 g/kg product of Zn, Fe, Mn, Cu, I, and Se, respectively. All diets contained equal protein, energy, and...

Nutritional plans of digestible phosphorus for gilts from 30 to 100 kg R. Bras. Zootec.
Carvalho,Kelly Cristina Nunes; Kiefer,Charles; Nascimento,Karina Márcia Ribeiro de Souza; Santos,Tânia Mara Baptista dos; Bonin,Marina de Nadai; Alencar,Stephan Alexander da Silva; Silva,Jéssica Lira da; Rodrigues,Gabriela Puhl.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate sequential digestible phosphorus levels for gilts from 30 to 100 kg. Sixty gilts were used, with an initial weight of 29.98±3.37 kg and final weight of 100.66±8.82 kg, distributed in a randomized block design, with five nutritional digestible phosphorus levels: 2.19-1.88-1.68, 2.69-2.38-2.18, 3.19-2.88-2.68, 3.69-3.38-3.18, and 4.19-3.88-3.68 g kg−1, respectively, for the growth phases 30 to 50 kg, 50 to 70 kg, and 70 to 100 kg, with six replicates and two animals per pen. The nutritional plans did not influence the final weight, days to reach 100 kg, total and daily weight gain, total and daily feed intake, crude protein intake, digestible lysine intake, or metabolizable energy intake. An increase in...
