Potato plant growth and macronutrient uptake as affected by soil tillage and irrigation systems PAB
Nunes,Julio Cezar Silveira; Fontes,Paulo Cezar Rezende; Araújo,Eduardo Fontes; Sediyama,Carlos.
The objective of this study was to evaluate potato plant growth and macronutrient uptake, as affected by soil tillage methods, in sprinkle and drip irrigated experiments. Eight treatments were set: T1, no tillage, except for furrowing before planting; T2, one subsoiling (SS); T3, twice rotary hoeing (RH); T4, one disc plowing (DP) + twice disc harrow leveling (DL); T5, 1DP + 2DL + 1RH; T6, 1DP + 2DL + 2RH; T7, 1SS + T6; T8, one moldboard plowing (MP) + 2DL. Treatments were arranged in a randomized block design with four replications. In both irrigation systems, plants presented higher emergence velocity index (EVI), when the soil was not tillaged, and the EVI was inversely related to the maximum tuber dry mass production. In both experiments, a functional...

Effects of Reduced and Conventional Tillage on Weed Communities: Results of a Long-Term Experiment in Southwestern Spain Planta Daninha
PARDO,G.; CIRUJEDA,A.; PEREA,F.; VERDÚ,A.M.C.; MAS,M.T.; URBANO,J.M..
ABSTRACT: An important drawback in adopting minimum tillage (MT) and no-tillage (NT) techniques is the frequently observed weed shift promoting adapted species and achieving poorer weed control. These changes can be detected best with long-term experiments, and results might differ depending on soil characteristics and the local flora. The objectives of this work were to evaluate the effect of reduced tillage on weed seed distribution in the soil profile and to identify possible consequences on weed diversity on a long-term experiment maintained during 24 years in Seville (Spain) with three tillage systems: NT, MT and conventional tillage (CT) including moldboard plow on a vertisol. For this purpose, soil seedbanks at 0-8 cm and 8-16 cm depths were...

Nitrogen fertilization and soil management of winter common bean crop Scientia Agricola
Silva,Matheus Gustavo da; Arf,Orivaldo; Sá,Marco Eustáquio de; Rodrigues,Ricardo Antônio Ferreira; Buzetti,Salatiér.
The adoption of appropriate cultural management, which includes nitrogen fertilization and soil tillage system, is very important to increase the efficiency of plant in the utilization of available resource. This research work was conducted for three years aiming at evaluating the effect of sidedressing nitrogen application (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 kg ha-1) on winter bean crop under different systems of soil management (conventional, minimal, and no-tillage systems). The experimental design was a randomized block arranged in strips relative to tillage systems, with random distribution of nitrogen doses into each strip, with four replications. Grain yield was affected by nitrogen rates and significant increases were obtained with the application of 75 to 100...

Soil management and nitrogen fertilization for sprinkler-irrigated upland rice cultivars Scientia Agricola
Arf,Orivaldo; Rodrigues,Ricardo Antonio Ferreira; Crusciol,Carlos Alexandre Costa; Sá,Marco Eustáquio de; Buzetti,Salatiér.
The use of sprinkler irrigation for rice (Oryza sativa L.) crop is a relatively recent practice in Brazil. Therefore, crop soil and fertilization management are still not very well defined. Another problem is the inexistence of specific cultivars adapted to this cropping system. This study aimed to evaluate sprinkler-irrigated upland rice cultivars under different soil management practices and nitrogen sidedressing rates in relation to yield and grain quality. A randomized block design was used, arranged as a 3 x 3 x 5 factorial scheme, totaling 45 treatments consisting of the combination of three rice cultivars (Primavera, Confiança and Maravilha), three soil management systems (disk harrow + levelling harrow, moldboard plow + levelling harrow and...

On Farm Evaluation and Demonstration of Animal Drawn Moldboard and Gavin Plows in the Gumara-Maksegnit Watershed CIGR Journal
bogale, worku biweta.
In most small holder farmers in Ethiopian highlands, farmers still use the wooden ard plow (Maresha). The present trial was conducted in 2011-2012 at Gumara Maksegint water shade, to evaluate the effect of four different tillage methods on teff and wheat yield and soil physical properties. The experiment was performed using a randomized complete block design with four treatments and three replications. The experiment was carried out on two soil types, a sandy Nitosol prevailing in the hilly upper areas and clayey Vertisol prevailing the valleys. Land preparation by tillage was done with either a Moldboard plow, Gavin plow, or traditional plow, and was compared against a No-tillage treatment. Animal draft force, soil bulk density, penetration resistance,...
