Padrão morfológico e ciclo de vida de Eutetranychus banksi (Acari: Tetranychidae) de diferentes locais e hospedeiros Rev. Bras. Zool.
Mattos,Viviane M.; Feres,Reinaldo J. F..
Eutetranychus banksi (McGregor, 1914) is a phytophagous, polyphagous and cosmopolitan species recorded on 23 plant families in 24 countries in North, Central and South Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Specimens of E. banksi present morphological variability among individuals of the same population and also among populations from different host species, being commonly referred to as a polytypic species, despite the fact that studies based on meristic comparisons of these populations are lacking. Also, there is no data available in the literature on the biological life tables of E. banksi on different hosts. Specimens collected in Brazil, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mexico, and Paraguay were investigated in order to recognize morphological patterns among...

Diferenciação morfológica das espécies de peixes-rei, Odontesthes Evermann & Kendall (Osteichthyes, Atherinopsidae) no extremo sul do Brasil: morfometria multivariada Zoologia
Bemvenuti,Marlise de Azevedo.
The systematic relationships in the species of the genus Odontesthes Evermann & Kendall, 1906 were analysed by multivariate morphometry, using data adjusted for alometric size effects by orthogonal projections. The results are discussed in terms of morphological differentiation to each geographic units. It was concluded that seven species were identified in the southern Brazilian coast. Five of them inhabit freshwater environments, O. bonariensis (Valenciennes, 1835), O. humensis De Buen, 1953, O. retropinnis (De Buen, 1953), O. aff. perugiae Evermann & Kendall, 1906 and O. mirinensis Bemvenuti, 1995. The freshwater atherinids with the largest body size, O. retropinnis, O. bonariensis and O. humensis, can be distinguished by snout size,...

Análise comparativa entre técnicas morfométricas aplicadas a Odontesthes bonariensis (Valenciennes) e Odontesthes humensis De Buen (Osteichthyes, Atherinopsidae) Zoologia
Bemvenuti,Marlise de Azevedo; Rodrigues,Fábio Lameiro.
The objective of this study was to compare two different morphometric methodologies - traditional measurements and truss networks - based on two species of silversides, Odontesthes bonariensis (Valenciennes, 1835) and O. humensis De Buen, 1953, to determine which of the methods results in more reliable distinction between groups. The traditional measures do not represent the true fish form because it does not take into account alometric variations or distinct growth stages. The measures with truss networks extend over the fish form thoroughly resulting in complete representation of the fish's body when homologous morphologic points are connected. The two sets of measures used in the principal components analysis resulted in two groups. The first principal...

Diferenciação morfométrica e osteológica entre Ramnogaster arcuata (Jenyns) e Platanichthys platana (Regan) (Teleostei, Clupeidae) Zoologia
Campello,Fernando Dantas; Bemvenuti,Marlise de Azevedo.
Ramnogaster arcuata (Jenyns, 1842) and Platanichthys platana (Regan, 1917), found at the estuary of Lagoa dos Patos and coastal lagoon (Lagoa Mirim) at the South of Brazil, are two sympatric clupeid fishes with very similar features. In order to clarify their taxonomic and geographical situation, delimiting its occurrence in fresh waters, a comparative study of the bony structures of the head, anal and dorsal fins and ventral scutes of these two sardines was developed. The osteological study with clear and stain technique included more information about the differentiation of the groups from the bones of the supramaxilla, dentary, pterygiophore and epipleural ribs. Variations on the body shape of those species were analyzed through the multivariate...
