Herbicidal activity of culture filtrates of four Drechslera spp., namely D. australiensis (Bugnic.) Subram. & B.L. Jain, D. biseptata (Sacc. & Roum.) M.J. Richardson & E.M. Fraser, D. hawaiiensis Bugnic. ex M.B. Ellis, and D. holmii (Luttr.) Subram. & P.C. Jain, prepared in malt extract broth was investigated against parthenium weed (Parthenium hysterophorus L.) in both laboratory bioassays and pots. ABSTRACT Weed control is consider the major obstacle for the growers in the organic farming. Lower plant productivity in organic farming mainly related to the poor weed control. It is widely known, in most cases, that losses caused by weeds exceeded the losses from any category of agricultural pests. Under water-stress condition, weeds can reduce crop yields more than 50% through moisture competition alone. In the light of the environmental and toxicological problems created by herbicides, it has become necessary to develop the safety methods for controlling weeds. Exploring the Herbicidal and Hormetic Potential of Allelopathic Crops Against Fenoxaprop-Resistant Phalaris minor Planta Daninha

ABSTRACT: Recent increases in the development of herbicide resistance in Phalaris minor worldwide demand alternative non-chemical strategies to control this weed. A series of experiments were conducted under laboratory and greenhouse conditions to explore the herbicidal potential of four allelopathic crops, including maize, rice, sorghum and sunflower, at different concentrations of aqueous extracts (2.5% and 5%), residues (1%, 2% and 4%) and mulches (4, 8, and 12 ton ha-1) against fenoxaprop-resistant P. minor. Aqueous extracts, residues and mulches provided 86-100%, 73-100% and 16-40% control of this resistant weed biotype, respectively. The dry biomass reduction due to aqueous extracts, residues and mulches was 48-100%, 48-100% and 20-54%, respectively....

Allelopathic Potential of Lavender’s Extract and Coumarin Applied as Pre-Plant Incorporated Into Soil Under Agronomic Conditions Planta Daninha

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to further explore that if coumarin and lavender’s extract, similar to greenhouse conditions, are phytotoxic towards some plant species under agronomic conditions. Before planting of maize, coumarin at 0, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000, and 4,000 g h-1 and lavender’s aqueous extract at 0, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, 8,000, and 16,000 mL h-1 were applied and incorporated into soil at a 3-5 cm depth. The density and biomass of weeds was significantly reduced by applying both compounds. The inhibition ability was also rate-dependent. Although the density and biomass of maize was also decreased at high rates, this crop showed higher tolerant to both compounds that all weeds.
