Монография - первое в отечественной и мировой литературе специальное исследование о нектоне. В ней вскрыты основные закономерности формирования нектона как особого эколого-морфологического типа животных водной среды. Рассматриваются систематический состав и географическое распространение нектона, его генезис и экологическая дивергенция, основные адаптации (функциональная морфология), эколого-морфологическая классификация и др. Сформулировано определение нектонологии, дается обзор ее методов, проблематики и истории развития. Обоснована новая, биогидродинамическая концепция жизненных форм пелагиали, на основе которой оказалось возможным выявить сущность различий между планктоном и нектоном. Detection and analysis of unusual events in long-term zooplankton and nekton data sets from North Inlet Estuary, South Carolina, USA ArchiMer

Unusual events and disturbances are important sources of variability in ecological data sets, but methods for their detection and analysis are not readily available. We have adapted widely-used quality control methods to identify and quantify unusual events in ten-year-long data sets from the relatively pristine North Inlet Estuary, South Carolina, USA.-Seasonal patterns and long-term trends were first removed from biweekly zooplankton and nekton abundance and corresponding water temperature and salinity data using nonparametic smoothing algorithms. The Shewhart Control Chart Method, a quantitative technique used for quality control in industrial manufacturing processes, was used to define four types of events according to intensity and duration....

One of the main challenges in ecology is to understand how global changes affect biodiversity and what are the consequences on ecosystem functioning. In this perspective, the functional diversity of communities is a cornerstone since it allows linking environment, community structure and ecosystem properties. The aim of this thesis is thus to improve the understanding of functional diversity dynamic (i) in relation to natural variability of environmental conditions and (ii) under anthropogenic disturbances. As a first step we have developed a new methodological framework allowing to (1) describe fish functional niches based on functional traits, and (2) to quantify functional diversity within (α) and among (β) sites thanks to new indices....
