FINDING OF GORDIUS AUSTRINUS DE VILLALOBOS, ZANCA & IBARRA - VIDAL, 2005 (GORDIIDA, NEMATOMORPHA) IN THE STOMACH OF SALMO TRUTTA (SALMONIFORMES) IN PATAGONIA Gayana
de Villalobos,Cristina; Ortiz-Sandoval,Juan J; Habit,Evelyn.
Field observations revealed, for the first time, cases of predation on Gordius austrinus by Salmo trutta in Risopatrón Lake, Aysén Region, Chile. Reinvestigation by SEM of the characteristics of the posterior end and of the cuticle of the specimens of horsehair worms collected inside the stomach of brown trout allow us to assign the specimens to the species Gordius austrinus. Also we could show that in some specimens the cuticle of mid body and terminal end presented structural alterations, due to the action of the digestive juices of the fish. This finding implies the extension of the distribution range of G. austrinus.

First data of Iberian Nematomorpha, with redescription of Gordius aquaticus Linnaeus, G. plicatulus Heinze, Gordionus wolterstorffii (Camerano) and Paragordius tricuspidatus (Dufour) Naturalis
Villalobos, Leonor Cristina de; Ribera, Ignacio; Bilton, David T..
Four species of Nematomorpha are recorded from NE Spain, representing the first reliable data on the group in the Iberian peninsula. Gordius aquations Linnaeus, 1758, G. plicatulus Heinze, 1937, Gordionus wolterstorffii (Camerano, 1888) and Paragordius tricuspidatus (Dufour, 1828) are redescribed based on scanning electron microscope observations. Notes on intraspecific morphological variation and ecology of the species are given.

Intersexuality in the holotype of Photina gracilis (Mantodea: Mantidae: Photininae) and its taxonomic implications Rev. Bras. Zool.
Agudelo R.,Antonio A..
Parasitism by horsehair worms (Nematomorpha) in Mantodea is well known, but only a few cases of intersexuality were reported in the literature. In the present study, intersexuality of the holotype of Photina gracilis Giglio-Tos, 1915 is documented as a possible consequence of nematomorph parasitism. Photina gracilis and Photina laevis Giglio-Tos, 1915 are established as new subjective junior synonyms of Photina vitrea (Burmeister, 1838). The female holotype of Mantis (Cardioptera) gymnopyga Burmeister, 1838, which was associated and synonymized with P. vitrea, is recognized as a member of the genus Coptopteryx and the combination Coptopteryx gymnopyga (Burmeister, 1838) is revalidated. The substitute name Photina gymnopyga (Burmeister, 1838), instead of...

Redescription and new records of freshwater Nematomorpha (Gordiida) from Chile, with the description of two new species RChHN
DE VILLALOBOS,CRISTINA; ZANCA,FERNANDA; IBARRA-VIDAL,HÉCTOR.
Only four species of Gordiida (Nematomorpha) are known from Chile. This paper describes two new species Gordionus enigmaticus and Gordius austrinus. Gordionus enigmaticus is characterized by the variation in the shape of the areoles along the longitudinal ventral furrow and by the absence of the precloacal fields of bristles at the terminal end. Gordius austrinus can be distinguished from other Gordius species by the presence of the precloacal ledge bounding the cloacal area depression, by the cuticular prominence where the cloacal opening lies and by the distribution pattern of the bristles at the posterior end. Likewise, Gordius paranensis, Gordius robustus and Neochordodes meridionales are ultrastructuraly redescribed and the distribution of each of...
