A palma forrageira constitui importante recurso forrageiro para a produção animal no semiárido brasileiro. Além do elevado valor energético quando comparada a outras forragens, a palma supre boa parte das exigências de água dos animais. Resultados recentes do nosso grupo de pesquisa mostraram que a inclusão de palma orelha de elefante mexicana em uma dieta suplementada com óleo vegetal alterou positivamente os ácidos graxos do leite de vacas leiteiras, indicando uma nova e promissora aplicação para essa cultura. Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate soil water dynamics in areas cultivated with forage cactus clones and to determine how environmental conditions and crop growth affect evapotranspiration. The study was conducted in the municipality of Serra Talhada, in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Crop growth was monitored through changes in the cladode area index (CAI) and through the soil cover fraction, calculated at the end of the cycle. Real evapotranspiration (ET) of the three evaluated clones was obtained as the residual term in the soil water balance method. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as correlações do índice de área do cladódio com características morfogênicas e produtivas da palma forrageira (Nopalea sp. e Opuntia sp.). Foram avaliados três clones de palma forrageira, em condições de sequeiro: IPA Sertânia, Miúda e Orelha de Elefante Mexicana. Dados morfológicos dos cladódios e da planta, índice de área do cladódio e biomassa acumulada foram obtidos na ocasião da colheita. A relação entre os dados coletados foi avaliada por meio da análise de trilha, após a aplicação da matriz de correlação de Pearson e do teste de multicolinearidade. ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to describe the technological process involved in the drying kinetics of fresh-cut prickly pear shoots through numerical and analytical solutions. Shoots of two different prickly pear species were used, ‘Gigante’ and ‘Miúda’. Drying was performed at different temperatures (50, 60, 70 and 80 °C) and weighing procedures were made continuously. The experimental data were expressed as moisture ratio. The Page model showed the best fit to the drying kinetics of minimally processed ‘Gigante’ and ‘Miúda’ prickly pear shoots, with the best coefficients of determination and Chi-square. The aim of this study was to evaluate the replacement of Tifton 85 hay (Cynodon spp.) by maniçoba hay or silage (Manihot glaziovii Muell. Arg) on sheep intake and performance. Twenty-four male Santa Ines animals were used, with initial body weight of 19.77 ± 1.95 kg and average age of 160 days. The animals were distributed in three treatments (Tifton 85 hay-TH, Maniçoba hay-MH and Maniçoba silage-MS), arranged in a randomized blocks design, with 8 replicates per treatment. The feedlot period lasted for 71 days. The means of the variables were tested by Tukey’s test at 5% probability.
