The identity of Isocrassina, Laevastarte and Ashtarotha (Mollusca, Bivalvia, Astartidae) and their representatives from beaches and estuaries in The Netherlands and Pliocene strata in Belgium Naturalis
Pouwer, R..
The identity of the subgenera Isocrassina Chavan, 1950, Laevastarte Hinsch, 1952, and Ashtarotha Dall, 1903, of the genus Astarte Sowerby, 1816 in the family Astartidae (Mollusca, Bivalvia) is discussed. Isocrassina has been widely used for Pliocene species in the North Sea Basin. Here it is demonstrated, that this is based on a redefinition of this subgenus, which excludes its type-species. As the North Sea species differ considerably from the type-species of Isocrassina in aspects of ornament and details of the hinge, it is concluded that they should be placed in the genus Laevastarte. A slightly modified definition of Isocrassina and Laevastarte is given and both are raised to genus level. The morphological basis for Ashtarotha is quite weak and it is...

Attempts to predate on gadid fish otoliths demonstrated by naticid gastropod drill holes from the Neogene of Mill-Langenboom, The Netherlands Naturalis
Gaemers, P.A.M.; Langeveld, B.W..
Incomplete drill holes produced by naticid snails are occasionally found in late Cenozoic gadid otoliths from the North Sea Basin. Among the Neogene otoliths found at Mill-Langenboom naticid drill holes are relatively common. Their occurrence is linked to strata that formed under reduced rates of sedimentation and/or that reflect non-sedimentation and erosion. The Upper Miocene–Upper Pliocene deposits at Mill-Langenboom (province of Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands) constitute a condensed sequence comprising most North Sea Basin stages of this interval from the Gramian to the end of the Pliocene, as demonstrated by index taxa amongst gadid otoliths, with a considerable hiatus between Miocene and Pliocene strata. The lag deposit at the base of the Pliocene...

Notes on North Sea Basin Cainozoic echinoderms, Part 2. The echinoid Temnechinus woodii (Agassiz in Agassiz & Desor, 1846) from the Pliocene of the Netherlands Naturalis
Jagt, John W.M.; Idema, Jan.
The Pliocene temnopleurid echinoid Temnechinus woodii (Agassiz in Agassiz & Desor, 1846) (= T. excavatus Forbes, 1852) is recorded from the Westerschelde at Ellewoutsdijk (province of Zeeland) and from borehole IJsselmuiden-l near Wezep (province of Overijssel). First described from the Coralline and Red crags (Pliocene-Lower Pleistocene) of southeast England, and long held to be confined to those deposits, material apparently assignable to T. woodii was recorded in the 1940s and 1950s from boreholes at Roosendaal and Oosterhout (province of Noord-Brabant). All Dutch records are from deposits referred to the Oosterhout Formation, which correlates with the Lillo Formation in the Antwerp area (Belgium), from where, perhaps surprisingly, T. woodii is...
