The tropical Atlantic is home to multiple coupled climate variations covering a wide range of timescales and impacting societally relevant phenomena such as continental rainfall, Atlantic hurricane activity, oceanic biological productivity, and atmospheric circulation in the equatorial Pacific. The tropical Atlantic also connects the southern and northern branches of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation and receives freshwater input from some of the world’s largest rivers. To address these diverse, unique, and interconnected research challenges, a rich network of ocean observations has developed, building on the backbone of the Prediction and Research Moored Array in the Tropical Atlantic (PIRATA). This network has evolved naturally over time...

MAREL Carnot data and metadata from Coriolis Data Centre ArchiMer
Lefebvre, Alain.
The MAREL (Mesures Automatisées en Réseau pour l’Environnement Littoral) Carnot system developed and implemented by Ifremer (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the sea) in 2004 is a moored buoy equipped with physico-chemical and biological measuring devices working in continuous and autonomous conditions. The system is located in the Boulogne-sur-Mer harbor (eastern English Channel) influenced both by marine coastal and fresh waters. The measuring station is equipped with high performance systems for seawater analysis and near real time data transmission. These system record with a high frequency resolution (20 minutes), the following parameters: estimated sea level, gust wind speed, wind from direction relative true north, horizontal wind...
