In line with the social objectives of the PNPB (Brazilian Program of Production and Use of Biodiesel) and its “Social Seal” Framework, PETROBRAS has set up a 57 million liter/year biodiesel plant in the semi‐arid region of North of Minas Gerais State, where the socioeconomics indicators are very unfavorable. Despite the potential to boost the agricultural and agro‐industrial sector, the biodiesel plant is using mainly soybean oil from other regions. Funded by the Minas Gerais Government, the ongoing project aims to contribute to the development of oilseed supply chain in the North of Minas Gerais. Drying long pepper biomass to extract safrole is a time consuming and costly process that can also result in the contamination of the material by microorganisms. The objective of this study was to analyze the yield of essential oil and safrole content of fresh and dried biomass of long pepper accessions maintained in the Active Germoplasm Bank of Embrapa Acre, in the state of Acre, Brazil, aiming at selecting genotypes with best performance on fresh biomass to recommend to the breeding program of the species. Several factors are known to affect mechanical oil expression from oilseeds. In this study, the influence of kernel moisture content (KMC), kernel heating temperature (KHT), kernel heating duration (KHD) and kernel particle size (KPS) on palm kernel oil (PKO) yield by a mixed variety of oil-palm kernels using a locally fabricated screw press was investigated. The one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) experimental approach was employed. Design-Expert 8P (Version 8.0.6) software was used for statistical analysis of data. Within the range of values of variables studied, the results showed that at 5% significance level only kernel size significantly affected PKO yield.
