This study investigates the stratigraphic evolution of the Late Oligocene - Early Miocene carbonate platforms of the Yadana area (offshore Myanmar). Well data, regional 2D and local 3D seismic surveys allow the identification of three shallow-water carbonate platforms (Yadana, 3DF and 3DE) showing various morphologic and stratigraphic patterns influenced by the presence of a paleohigh. The identification of seven seismic sequences in the Yadana area constrains the stratigraphic evolution in three stages: (1) development of aggrading attached and isolated platforms during the Chattian; (2) a period of platform emersion during the Oligocene - Miocene transition; (3) drowning of the smaller buildup (3DE) associated with km-scale backstepping on the large... |

A new species of Microdyromys, M. puntarronensis, is described from the Early Oligocene locality Montalbán 8 (Teruel, Spain). It is compared with the other Early Oligocene species of the genus, M. misonnei. The latter is known from Hoogbutsel (Belgium) and Montalbán 1D. Montalbán 8 is intermediate in age between Hoogbutsel and Montalbán 1D, and the dental pattern of its Microdyromys is more advanced than it is in Montalbán 1D. This leads to the conclusion that two lineages of Microdyromys existed in the Early Oligocene. An attempt is made to follow these lineages throughout the Late Oligocene and the Miocene. |

Lithologically, the decapod-bearing levels of Rupelian (Oligocene) age in the Ligure Piemontese Basin, are characterized by an alternation of greyish blue marls with nodular elements and silt-rich, occasionally sandy, marls. The fossil studied for the present note have been collected mainly from pebbles or nodules which were eroded out of the higher levels exposed of this sedimentary complex, referred to as the ‘Formazione di Molare’. These levels overli the ‘Formazioni continentali delle Brecce di Costa Cravara e Pianfolco’, studied by Charrier et al. (1964) and dated as Early Rupelian. The levels yielding brachyuran fossils were attributed by Allasinaz (1987) to the transition between the ‘Formazione di Molare’ and the overlying ‘Marne di Rigoroso’, and... |

Three families, two genera and two species are recorded for the first time for the Cuban Cretaceous to Pleistocene geologic age. The genera Persephona Leach, 1817 (Leucosiidae), Mithrax Desmarest, 1823 (Majidae) and Panopeus Milne Edwards, 1834 (Panopeidae) are well known in the Recent of the Caribbean region. Fossils of these taxa are found in formations from lower Miocene to upper Pleistocene in age in the Caribbean. Portunus oblongus Rathbun, 1920, an extinct species, is the first species of Portunus Weber, 1795 recorded from Cuban Oligocene–Miocene. Lophoranina precocious Feldmann, Vega, Tucker, García-Barrera y Avendaño, 1996 (Raninidae), other extinct species, is also recorded for the Cretaceous (Campanian- Maastrichtian). This is the most ancient... |

Systematic studies of angiosperm fossil woods from sediments of the Río Leona Formation were continued. A new morphospecies of Maloidoxylon with affinity to Rosaceae was described and constitutes, together with the fossil pollen from the same strata, the oldest South American fossil with this familial affinity. Nothofagaceae fossil woods are represented by the morphospecies Nothofagoxylon scalariforme Gothan, Nothofagoxylon kraeuseli Boureau et Salard, Nothofagoxylon triseriatum Torres et Lemoigne, Nothofagoxylon ruei Salard and a new morphospecies of Nothofagoxylon. Three of the four subgenera of Nothofagus were recognized in the fossil woods and a new infrageneric affinity for Nothofagoxylon ruei was proposed. The described woods have affinity to extant... |

A scorpion prosoma, a plecopteran nymph, Euperlida parvicercifera Cifuentes-Ruiz gen. et sp. nov., and the elytra of an adult beetle (Coleoptera) are described from the Oligocene Coatzingo Formation, Puebla, Mexico. Specimens were found at the Los Ahuehuetes locality, Puebla, from where numerous plant remains have been previously described. A lacustrine paleoenvironment for these sediments is confirmed based on habitat of recent Plecoptera. This report represents the first record of Oligocene continental arthropods from Central Mexico, and the first for a fossil Plecoptera in this country. It is the first record for a Nearctic extinct genus of Perlidae. |
