Non-marine Oligocene ostracods from Tremembé Formation (Taubaté Basin, Southeast Brazil) are studied for the first time. The study reveals rich assemblages which are probably composed of many new taxa, two of which are described here. The sixteen ostracod species registered are classified in the generaCypretta Vávra, Strandesia Stuhlmann,Potamocypris Brady, Heterocypris Claus,Eucypris Vávra, Herpetocypris Brady and Norman, Cytheridella Daday and LimnocythereBrady. Two new species of the latter are herein proposed: L. mandubi sp. nov. and L. katu sp. nov. The succession of ostracod assemblages along the studied core changes conspicuously in composition, abundance and preservation, and are characterized by the following associations:... |

ABSTRACT Paleocene ostracods and planktonic foraminifera from the Maria Farinha Formation, Paraíba Basin, are herein presented. Eleven ostracod species were identified in the genera Cytherella Jones, Cytherelloidea Alexander, Eocytheropteron Alexander, Semicytherura Wagner, Paracosta Siddiqui, Buntonia Howe, Soudanella Apostolescu, Leguminocythereis Howe and, probably, Pataviella Liebau. The planktonic foraminifera are represented by the genera Guembelitria Cushman, Parvularugoglobigerina Hofker, Woodringina Loeblich and Tappan, Heterohelix Ehrenberg, Zeauvigerina Finlay, Muricohedbergella Huber and Leckie, and Praemurica Olsson, Hemleben, Berggren and Liu. The ostracods and foraminifera analyzed indicate an inner shelf paleoenvironment for the studied... |

Twenty four species of ostracod have been found on Tarawa Atoll and fifteen on Kuria Island, Republic of Kiri-bati in the western Pacific Ocean. Thirteen species are common to both atolls. A consistent difference has been discovered in the ostracod faunas of Tarawa and Kuria, with those from Kuria showing coarser texture in the ornamentation than their counterparts from Tarawa. The variation of carapace ornamentation has led to multiple names for a species. A characteristic ornamentation at a particular locality may be a due to a small number of specimens colonising the new locality and having a limited gene pool. Alternatively, any variation in the ornamentation may be a clue to multiple phases of colonisation within a small area. |

The La Perroche marsh is a small Holocene marsh on the south-western coast of the Oleron island (Bay of Biscay, France) presently occupied by a freshwater swamp and separated from the ocean by a continuous sand dune ridge. The study of its infill shows first basal conglomeratic deposits with calcareous pebbles on a Cenomanian rough substrate. The Holocene infill since 6000 years BP begins with a very fast sedimentation of sands. Then, the sedimentation becomes finer, with lagoonal to freshwater influences recorded by ostracods. The distribution of these deposits inside the marsh is asymmetric, with a thick sandy-gravely layer in the eastern part and a succession of sands, clays and organic layers in the western part. Communication with the sea is episodic,... |

[1] New Mg/Ca, Sr/Ca, and published stable oxygen isotope and Sr-87/(86) Sr data obtained on ostracods from gravity cores located on the northwestern Black Sea slope were used to infer changes in the Black Sea hydrology and water chemistry for the period between 30 to 8 ka B. P. ( calibrated radiocarbon years). The period prior to 16.5 ka B. P. was characterized by stable conditions in all records until a distinct drop in delta O-18 values combined with a sharp increase in Sr-87/(86) Sr occurred between 16.5 and 14.8 ka B. P. This event is attributed to an increased runoff from the northern drainage area of the Black Sea between Heinrich Event 1 and the onset of the Bolling warm period. While the Mg/Ca and Sr/Ca records remained rather unaffected by this... |

Foraminifera and ostracods have been quantitatively studied in core MD01-2472, from the upper continental slope (at water depth of 501 m), to evaluate their relationship with bottom water condition variability and decipher the control of the Levantine Intermediate Water (LIW) current on benthic faunas. The occurrence of reworked ostracod species (originating from the continental shelf) and, the presence of shallow water Elphidium/Ammonia benthic foraminifera are used to estimate the degree of along-slope transport at the core site. This has revealed two intervals of along-slope transport also associated with coarse-grained contourite deposits, deposited during the YD and HS2 episodes. Planktonic-benthic foraminiferal and ostracod assemblages reflect... |

A new ostracod found in the Mississippian of the Cantabrian Mountains shows ornamental features similar to Criboconcha Cooper, hitherto known from Mississippian and Pennsylvanian strata of different parts of the world (especially from the U.S.A.). However, some features of this ostracod are very different from the typical characteristcs of the Healdiidae and support bairdiocyproidean affinities. The new genus Pseudocriboconcha (type species Pseudocriboconcha prinsi sp. nov.) is proposed. This species is distinguishedby distinct pits on the lateral surface; a posterior ridge ending in dorsal and ventral spines; a rounded rim parallel to the borders of each valve; and a spine on this rim, above the anterior end and directed dorsally or anterodorsally. |
