Protolith age of Santa Maria Chico granulites dated on zircons from an associated amphibolite-facies granodiorite in southernmost Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
Hartmann,Léo A.; Liu,Dunyi; Wang,Yenbin; Massonne,Hans-Joachim; Santos,João O.S..
U-Pb dating of zircon was undertaken with the Beijing SHRIMP II (sensitive high resolution ion microprobe) on anamphibolite facies granodiorite and an almandine-albite granulite from the Santa Maria Chico Granulitic Complex, southern Brazilian Shield. This work was also done to unravel protolith ages which are often hidden in the array of partly reset data. The obtained metamorphic ages of the granodiorite gneiss and the granulite are 2035 ± 9 Ma and 2006 ± 3 Ma, respectively. These data are within the range of metamorphic ages determined in previous studies (2022 ± 18 Ma and 2031 ± 40 Ma). However, protolith ages for the granodiorite (2366 ± 8 Ma) and the granulite (2489 ± 6 Ma) were obtained which are outside the previously recognized range (>...

Petrology of dioritic, tonalitic and trondhjemitic gneisses from Encantadas Complex, Santana da Boa Vista, southernmost Brazil: paleoproterozoic continental-arc magmatism Anais da ABC (AABC)
Philipp,Ruy P.; Lusa,Marcelo; Nardi,Lauro V.S..
The Encantadas Complex is a unit composed of dioritic, tonalitic and trondhjemitic gneisses with minor hornblendite. This complex is intruded by granites of Neoproterozoic age. Major and trace element data indicate metaluminous to slightly peraluminous composition related to the medium-K calc-alkaline series. Compositional parameters are consistent with a common evolution from less differentiated magmas, probably through fractional crystallization. The orthogneisses show LaN/YbN ratios from 10 to 50, K2O/Na2O varying from 1.1 to 3.0, Y contents from 3 to 39 ppm, Yb from 0.3 to 3.7, and Lu with contents in the range 0.06 and 0.54 ppm. Such geochemical features are similar to those of Archaean tonalitic rocks and are usually described in rocks formed by...

Sm-Nd age of the fazenda brasileiro gabbro, Bahia, Brazil: example of robust behavior of the Sm-Nd isotopic system under extreme hydrothermal alteration Anais da ABC (AABC)
Pimentel,Márcio M.; Silva,Maria da Glória.
The Fazenda Brasileiro gold mineralization is hosted by a gabbroic sill, intrusive into metavolcanicmetasedimentary rocks of the Rio Itapicuru Greenstone Belt, São Francisco Craton. The 2.05 Ga old mineralization is associated with intense shearing and hydrothermal alteration, and the host gabbro is altered to a series of rocks rich in sericite, chlorite, actinolite, carbonate and quartz. Twelve whole-rock samples of the gold mineralization, representing varied degrees of alteration, from rocks with preserved igneous textures to the ore (quartz-carbonate-sulfide-chlorite), were studied by the Sm-Nd method. All analytical points resulted in an isochron (MSWD = 1.9) indicating the age of 2142 +/- 47 Ma (1s) and Epsilon Nd (T) of +1.2....

Sr and Nd isotopic characteristics of 1.77-1.58 Ga rift-related granites and volcanics of the Goiás tin province, central Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
PIMENTEL,MÁRCIO M.; BOTELHO,NILSON F..
Supracrustal rocks of the Araí Group, together with coeval A-type granites represent a ca. 1.77-1.58 Ga old continental rift in Brazil. Two granite families are identified: the older (1.77 Ga) group forms small undeformed plutons, and the younger granites (ca. 1.58 Ga) constitute larger, deformed plutons. Sr-Nd isotopic data for these rocks indicate that the magmatism is mostly product of re-melting of Paleoproterozoic sialic crust. Initial Sr ratios for both granite families are ca 0.726 and 0.720. Most TDM model ages are between 2.58 and 1.80 Ga. epsilonND(T) values are between +3.6 and -11.9. Araí volcanics are bimodal, with basalts and dacites/rhyolites interlayered with continental sediments. The felsic volcanics show Nd isotopic characteristics which...

Carbon isotope fluctuations in Precambrian carbonate sequences of several localities in Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
SIAL,ALCIDES N.; FERREIRA,VALDEREZ P.; DEALMEIDA,AFONSO R.; ROMANO,ANTONIO W.; PARENTE,CLOVIS V.; DACOSTA,MARCONDES L.; SANTOS,VICTOR H..
Carbon isotope fluctuations in Precambrian sedimentary carbonates between 2.8 Ga and 0.60 Ga in Brazil are examined in this study. The carbonate facies of the BIF of the 2.8 Ga-old Carajás Formation, state of Pará in northern Brazil, has rather homogeneous delta13C (-5 o/ooPDB), compatible with carbonatization of a silicate protolith by a CO2-rich fluid from mantle degassing. The Paleoproterozoic Gandarela Formation, state of Minas Gerais, displays a narrow delta13C variation (-1.5 to +0.5 o/oo) compatible with carbon isotope signatures of carbonates deposited around 2.4 Ga worldwide. The Fecho do Funil Formation has probably recorded the Lomagundi delta13C positive anomaly (+6.4 to +7.1 o/ooPDB). The magnesite-bearing carbonates of the Orós mobile belt,...
