Paraconsistents artificial neural networks applied to the study of mutational patterns of the F subtype of the viral strains of HIV-1 to antiretroviral therapy 42
SANTOS,PAULO C.C. DOS; LOPES,HELDER F.S.; ALCALDE,ROSANA; GONSALEZ,CLÁUDIO R.; ABE,JAIR M.; LOPEZ,LUIS F..
ABSTRACT The high variability of HIV-1 as well as the lack of efficient repair mechanisms during the stages of viral replication, contribute to the rapid emergence of HIV-1 strains resistant to antiretroviral drugs. The selective pressure exerted by the drug leads to fixation of mutations capable of imparting varying degrees of resistance. The presence of these mutations is one of the most important factors in the failure of therapeutic response to medications. Thus, it is of critical to understand the resistance patterns and mechanisms associated with them, allowing the choice of an appropriate therapeutic scheme, which considers the frequency, and other characteristics of mutations. Utilizing Paraconsistents Artificial Neural Networks, seated in...

Latent class analysis of attention and white matter correlation in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder 56
Rossi,A.S.U.; Moura,L.M.; Miranda,M.C.; Muszkat,M.; Mello,C.B.; Bueno,O.F.A..
This study aimed to explore attentional patterns among children with inattentive attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD-I) and children with typical development (TD), using a latent class analysis (LCA). Patterns of brain connectivity were also explored. The sample comprised 29 ADHD-I and 29 TD matched children. An LCA was conducted to reclassify subjects according to their attentional performance, considering cognitive measures of attention and behavioral symptoms, regardless of group of origin. The new clusters were then compared in respect to brain white matter measurements (extracted from diffusion tensor imaging). Participants were rearranged in 2 new latent classes, according to their performance in an attention task and the results of...

A multivariate approach to differentiate yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) commercialized in the southern Brazil on the basis of phenolics, methylxanthines and in vitro antioxidant activity 116

Abstract The consumption of yerba mate beverages is related to several health benefits. These desirable properties are mainly due to the bioactive compounds. However, the levels of those compounds are directly affected by factors such as geographical origin. This study aimed to use chemometrics to evaluate the antioxidant compounds of yerba mate (consumed as chimarrão) marketed in southern Brazil. Neochlorogenic acid and caffeine were the main bioactive compounds found in this type of yerba mate beverage (chimarrão). The dataset was analyzed by chemometrics, and principal component analysis using the first three principal components explained 61.30% of the total variance. Hierarchical cluster analysis suggested three clusters, with cluster 1 containing the...

Chemical pattern of brazilian apples: a chemometric approach based on the Fuji and Gala varieties 116
Vieira,Renato Giovanetti; Prestes,Rosilene Aparecida; Denardi,Frederico; Nogueira,Alessandro; Wosiacki,Gilvan.
The chemical composition of apple juices may be used to discriminate between the varieties for consumption and those for raw material. Fuji and Gala have a chemical pattern that can be used for this classification. Multivariate methods correlate independent continuous chemical descriptors with the categorical apple variety. Three main descriptors of apple juice were selected: malic acid, total reducing sugar and total phenolic compounds. A chemometric approach, employing PCA and SIMCA, was used to classify apple juice samples. PCA was performed with 24 juices from Fuji and Gala, and SIMCA, with 15 juices. The exploratory and predictive models recognized 88% and 64%, respectively, as belonging to a mixed domain. The apple juice from commercial fruits shows...

Comparison of shape analysis methods for Guinardia citricarpa ascospore characterization 69
Pazoti,Mário Augusto; Garcia,Rogério Eduardo; Cruz Pessoa,José Dalton; Martinez Bruno,Odemir.
Among the diseases affecting the commercial citrus production, the citrus black spot (CBS) is considered to cause substantial losses. The analyses of particles in suspension in the orchards and collected into a disc have been applied as a preventive action trying to identify the presence of fungus spores before symptom appearance. In this paper, we show the results of several shape analysis methods applied to the fungus, the first step to the aimed computer aided vision system, capable to assist the identification process. Experiments and comparative results among the methods are presented in this paper, showing that better results were obtained applying the curvature method

Nonlinear correlation by using invariant identity vectors signatures to identify plankton 72
Fimbres-Castro,Claudia; Álvarez-Borrego,Josué; Vázquez-Martínez,Irene; Espinoza-Carreón,T. Leticia; Ulloa-Pérez,A. Elsi; Bueno-Ibarra,Mario A.
In this paper a new methodology to recognize radk>larians is presented. This system is invariant to position, rotation and scale by using identity vectors signatures (Is) obtained for both the target and the problem image. In this application, / is obtained by means of a simplification of the main features of the original image in addition of the properties of the Fourier transform. Identity vectors signatures are compared using nonlinear correlation. This new methodology recognizes objects in a more simple way. It has a low computational cost of approximately 0.02 s per image. In addition, the statistics of Euclidean distances is used as an alternative methodology for comparison of the identity vectors signatures. Also, experiments were carried out in...

Aplicación del método de zonación morfo-estructural para identificar nudos sismogènicos en la región costera y cadenas montañosas de los andes septentrionales del Ecuador 20
Chunga, Kervin; Michetti, Alessando M.; Gorshkov, Alexander I.; Panza, Giuliano F.; Soloviev, Alexander; Martillo, Carlos.
Due to the lack of information in the catalogue of historic earthquakes (1951-2010) and also of potential but unmapped faults in the field, the seismic zoning modeling for Ecuador does not define parameters of equivalent attenuations of the tectonic activity of the territory. The aim of this research is to provide new engineering techniques for seismic hazard evaluation. The technique of this study is based on the assumption that strong earthquakes are associated within structural nodes that are specific structures formed around intersections of fault zones. The nodes have been delineated with a morphostructural zoning method, based on the idea that the lithosphere is made-up of different-scaled blocks, separated by mobile boundaries. These blocks are...
