The objective of this study is to evaluate the use of standardization and classification rules, proposed by the CEAGESP, by peach producers and wholesalers and to identify the effects of this procedure on the supply and commercialization of the fruit. The methodology used included qualitative study and analysis of study cases. Information was gathered through interviews with producers from the state of São Paulo and with the wholesalers of the Entreposto Terminal de São Paulo. Most producers are optimistic about the use of standardization and classification rules and emphasize that their implementation is the reason behind the success of peach commercialization. They invest in improving the quality of the product by updating, whenever possible, the... |

The production of desserts and fruit jellies is a traditional agribusiness activity in the south of Brazil, especially in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul. However, the Brazilian commercial opening that was processed in the beginning of the 1990’ years, it influenced negatively this segment, mainly in relation to the peach. This resulted in a new roll of conditions that culminated in the need of a revaluation of the transactional behavior among the agents involved in this segment. In this aspect, it is necessary to consider that the agribusiness system capacity of organization depends on the contractual arrangements that are established among them. In spite of these contractual relationships that causes an influence on the system efficiency it depends, not only... |

ABSTRACT The thinning peach fruits is to reduce the load of the plant with the aim to improve the size, flavor and color of the remaining fruits. However, the practice of thinning requires high demand of manpower and become more expensive the production costs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the reduction of flowering buds and the time of hand thinning in ‘Maciel’ peach after gibberellic acid (GA3) application at different times and concentrations. The experiments were performed in the harvests of 2012 and 2013 in a commercial peach orchard located in the county of Morro Redondo, RS. The plants of cultivar Maciel, in 2012, were sprayed with four doses of GA3 0, 25, 75 and 125 mg L-1, at different times 20, 40 and 60 days after full bloom... |

This work evaluated the quality of the fruit in peach and nectarine cultivars with and without the application of hydrogenated cyanamide and mineral oil, for two production cycles (2009 and 2010). The experiment was carried out at the School of Agricultural Science of the São Paulo State University (UNESP), at Botucatu in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, located at latitude 22º51'55" S and longitude 48º26'22" E, at an altitude of 810 m. The predominant climate type is warm temperate (mesothermal) with rains in the summer and dry in the winter. The following were evaluated: soluble solids, titratable acidity, pH, ratio, firmness, vitamin C and pulp yield. The use of hydrogenated cyanamide and mineral oil had no effect on the quality attributes of the... |

Prunus persica has been proposed as a genomic model for deciduous trees and the Rosaceae family. Optimized protocols for RNA isolation are necessary to further advance studies in this model species such that functional genomics analyses may be performed. Here we present an optimized protocol to rapidly and efficiently purify high quality total RNA from peach fruits (Prunus persica). Isolating high-quality RNA from fruit tissue is often difficult due to large quantities of polysaccharides and polyphenolic compounds that accumulate in this tissue and co-purify with the RNA. Here we demonstrate that a modified version of the method used to isolate RNA from pine trees and the woody plant Cinnamomun tenuipilum is ideal for isolating high quality RNA from the... |

A non-destructive impact sensor to measure on-line fruit firmness was evaluated. This sensor is an adaptation of a static model used in the laboratory to measure fruit quality and was installed in an experimental fruit packing line with a commercial sizer chain. The firmness index is related to the acceleration-time curve supplied by an accelerometer attached to an impacting arm. The main objective of this study was to evaluate sensor performance and sources of variation. We made classification trials on three fruits: peaches (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch), apples (Malus domestica Borkh.), and pears (Pyrus communis L.), as well as working trials, such as placing the fruit, orientation, and others. The sensor works correctly at a speed of 7 fruits s-1 (0.63 m... |
