A new species of Polyonyx Stimpson, 1858, of the P. sinensis group (Crustacea: Decapoda: Anomura: Porcellanidae) commensal with a chaetopterid worm from Peninsular Malaysia Naturalis
Ng, P.K.L.; Sasekumar, A..
A new species of porcellanid crab, Polyonyx vermicola, belonging to the P. sinensis group is described from Selangor, Peninsular Malaysia. The species is an obligate commensal of tubes of the chaetopterid worm Sasekumaria selangora Rullier, 1976 (Polychaeta). Polyonyx vermicola is differentiated from all congeners by its small size, possessing a more rectangular carapace, proportionately longer carpus on the larger cheliped, strongly gaping cheliped fingers, the tips of which are turned outwards, the outer surface of each cheliped fingers lined with a row of small granules, and having the ventral margin of the third ambulatory propodus armed with strong spinules.

Nine new species of Thottea (Aristolochiaceae) in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, with two taxa in Peninsular Malaysia redefined and a taxon lectotypified Naturalis
Yao, T.L..
Nine new species of the genus Thottea, namely T. anthonysamyi, T. kamarudiniana, T. longipedunculata, T. papilionis, T. piscodora, T. reflexa, T. ruthiae and T. terengganuensis from Peninsular Malaysia (eight species) and T. praetermissa from Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore (one species) are described and illustrated. Distribution maps are provided and conservation status is assessed for the new species. Thottea dependens and T. tricornis are redefined and T. parviflora is lectotypified. Thottea is now represented by 16 species in Peninsular Malaysia and two in Singapore. A spherical-ovoid shaped perianth with an aperture at the top is observed for the first time in Thottea. The white and bicoloured perianth are described for the first time in Peninsular...

Chung, R.C.K.; Soepadmo, E..
A revision of the genus Microcos in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore was conducted resulting in the recognition of twelve species. Six taxa (M. antidesmifolia var. antidesmifolia, M. fibrocarpa, M. lanceolata, M. latifolia, M. laurifolia and M. tomentosa) are common and occur more or less throughout Peninsular Malaysia. Four species (M. globulifera, M. hirsuta, M. latifolia and M. tomentosa) are recorded for Singapore. One species (M. riparia) is newly recorded for Peninsular Malaysia, and two species (M. erythrocarpa and M. malayana) are endemic to Peninsular Malaysia. A complete list of exsiccatae, key, nomenclatural typification and synonymy, descriptions and illustrations are provided for all twelve species.

Davalliaceae in Peninsular Malaysia, a preliminary study based on trnL-F region Naturalis
Maideen, H.; Milne, R.I.; Gibby, M..
A preliminary molecular analysis based on trnL-F region is presented for 17 taxa of Davalliaceae in Peninsular Malaysia. Maximum parsimony and Bayesian analysis were conducted on the dataset in order to establish a robust phylogenetic relationship between taxa. The results of analysis indicate incongruence with morphological classification. All genera of Davalliaceae in the study area are paraphyletic except Araiostegia which is represented by only a single species. In addition it partially agrees with recent phylogeny base on rbcL data.

Sphagnum bogs of Kelantan, Peninsular Malaysia Naturalis
Yao, T.L.; Kamarudin, S.; Chew, M.Y.; Kiew, R..
Sphagnum bog, a unique plant community for Peninsular Malaysia was encountered on Padang Ragut, Kelantan. Its topographical features and flora are described, and compared with padang and upper montane floras. It is postulated that the community is derived from upper montane forest and is the result of zoogenic factors, namely elephant activity.

Rediscovery of Aquilaria rostrata (Thymelaeaceae), a species thought to be extinct, and notes on Aquilaria conservation in Peninsular Malaysia Naturalis
Lee, S.Y.; Mohamed, R..
After more than 100 years since the first discovery, Aquilaria rostrata, a critically endangered species listed in the IUCN Red List and presumably extinct, has been rediscovered in Terengganu State of Peninsular Malaysia. Here, we describe the history, taxonomy, ecology and conservation status of this endemic species, and compare our findings with the species description made from the first and only collection produced prior to this study. In addition, we present the similarities between A. rostrata and several Aquilaria species occurring in Peninsular Malaysia and neighbouring regions using molecular sequence data from the nuclear ribosomal DNA (Internal Transcribed Spacer) and chloroplast intergenic spacer region (trnL-trnF). Our morphological and...

On a new species of blackwater prawn, Macrobrachium oxyphilus (Crustacea: Decapoda: Caridea: Palaemonidae), from peat swamps in Peninsular Malaysia Naturalis
Ng, P.K.L..
A new species of freshwater palaemonid prawn, Macrobrachium oxyphilus spec, nov., is described from highly acidic blackwaters in a peat swamp forest in Selangor, Peninsular Malaysia. The species differs from its nearest congener, M. trompii (de Man, 1898), in having proportionately smaller eyes, shorter scaphocerites, a lesser number of ventral rostral teeth, a more inflated carapace, and less pubescent and more spiniferous chelipeds.

A revision of Beilschmiedia (Lauraceae) of Peninsular Malaysia Naturalis
Kok, R.P.J. de.
A revision of the Peninsular Malaysian species of Beilschmiedia (Lauraceae) is presented with a summary of the taxonomic history of the group, key, full descriptions, distribution maps, conservation assessments, ecological information, ethno-botanical notes and a discussion of morphology. In this treatment, 18 species are recognised; six names are lectotypified (B. insignis, B. kunstleri, B. maingayi, B. membranacea, B. roxburghiana and B. scortechinii) and five are placed into synonymy for the first time; one name is validly published for the first time (B. atra) and one species is recognised and described here as new to science (B. kochummenii). Most species are considered to be common (Least Concern), but B. atra must be considered to be extinct, two...

Revision on the genus Phyllagathis (Melastomataceae: Sonerileae). I. The species in Burma, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra Naturalis
Cellinese, Nicoletta.
A revision of the genus Phyllagathis Blume is presented under a wider generic concept than used by earlier authors. A comprehensive synopsis of the genus is provided in the general part, where morphological characters and their variations are discussed. This paper will focus in particular on the species occurring in Burma, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia (West Malaysia), and Sumatra. Here, the genus includes 10 species, most of which are endemic to Peninsular Malaysia, with only two species endemic to Thailand (P. siamensis and P. tuberosa), and two other also occurring outside the Malaysian political boundaries (P. rotundifolia and P. hispida). Part II of this paper will treat the species of Borneo and Natuna Island.
