New molecular biologist perspective and insight: DNA topoisomerases production by recombinant DNA technology for medical laboratory application and pharmaceutical industry Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Chan,Mooi Kwai; Fadzil,Nur Adila; Chew,Ai Lan; Khoo,Boon Yin.
DNA topoisomerases are essential enzymes that control the topological state of DNA replication during mitosis. These enzymes are classified based on their mechanisms and physical properties. During mitosis, superhelical DNA must be unwound or relaxed by DNA topoisomerases prior to a decoding step by DNA processing enzymes, such as DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase. By blocking the reaction of resealing the breaks in the DNA ultimately can result in cellular death. Compounds that inhibit the catalytic function of these enzymes can serve as potential anticancer agents. DNA topoisomerases are found in nature and used as high quality and well-validated targets for the screening of potential anticancer agents. Our current work focuses on determining potential...

OS NOVOS RUMOS DA ESTRATÉGIA DE MARKETING NO MERCADO FARMACÊUTICO AgEcon
Correa, Gisleine Fregoneze; Oliveira, Luciel Henrique de.
The pharmaceutical industry invests its sales force in contacts with doctors, making visits and publicizing its drugs, in order for them to prescribe these products to their patients. This work discusses the structure of the pharmaceutical market and how marketing strategies are used by laboratories in their relations with doctors and with the owners of pharmacies and drugstores. The cases of two laboratories, Aché and Boehringer Ingelheim, which serve as the reference for this study, are presented and discussed. The work demonstrates the difficulties arising from the lack of doctors, lack of assistance and the disloyal and unfair competition between ethical and promotional products. It was observed that the industries should improve their guidance and...

INNOVATION AS THE KEY OF THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES’ COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AgEcon
Lanyi, Beatrix.
Pharmaceutical industry belongs to the most innovative branches in Hungary. However as a consequence of increasing development costs and the strong competition on the market the means of gaining competitive advantage has become a focal point of the pharmaceutical companies’ strategy. Economic performance is highly dependent on research and knowledge and economic success is determined how companies are able to apply this knowledge and skills so how flourishing the product or technological development becomes. Only those branches and companies will gain competitive advantage that are able to compete on knowledge and technology. Since science and technology are considered to be the most important source of economic development, it contributes to the more...

Perception and knowledge of veterinarians and pet storeowners about ectoparasitic control of cats and dogs: scenario in eight Brazilian states in 2003 and market evolution in the state of São Paulo in 2011 MV&Z
Oliveira, Ricardo Osorio de; Lestingi, Vinicius; Gastaldo, Felipe Lopes.
Veterinarians and Pet Store owners can influence the buying decision of veterinary products, and therefore it is important to know their knowledge about the products available in the market, as well as the key concepts relating to its use. The aim of this paper was the evaluation, in a broad sense, of the knowledge of these individuals about ectoparasitic control. During the year 2003, 202 interviews were conducted in eight Brazilian states (Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás e Ceará): 97 of them with Veterinarians (Vets) and 105 with Pet Store Owners (PSO). In 2011, the same survey was conducted only, in the state of São Paulo where it was performed, 25 interviews with Vets and 27 with PSO. The...

Pharmaceuticals from natural products: current trends Anais da ABC (AABC)
SEIDL,PETER R..
The use of products extracted from plants for medicinal purposes can be traced to the beginnings of civilization and up until the end of the nineteenth century natural products were the principal source of medicines. Since then their relative importance has oscillated according to the strategies of large pharmaceutical companies. Now that these strategies are changing, there are new opportunities for countries like Brazil, in which a large proportion of the world's biodiversity is located. There are, however, new circumstances that must be taken into consideration: material must be collected by groups which are formally authorized to do so and under the conditions of the Convention of Biological Diversity, the discovery process is being successively...

Proposal of managerial standards for new product portfolio management in Brazilian pharmaceutical companies BJPS
Moreira,Raquel Assis; Cheng,Lin Chih.
New Product Portfolio Management is aimed at helping decision-makers better select projects for new products based on key criteria for the manufacturer. The Brazilian pharmaceutical industry has been undergoing change due to stricter sanitary requirements following the enactment of the Generic Law in 1999. This paper presents the results of a research study aimed at clarifying the rationale employed by national pharmaceutical companies in selecting and prioritizing their new product development projects. Consequently, proposals for an analytical structure that could help these companies better select their products were produced. The research was carried out using case study methodology in which four different companies were investigated. The results of...

Regulation of herbal medicines in Brazil: advances and perspectives BJPS
Carvalho,Ana Cecília Bezerra; Perfeito,João Paulo Silvério; Costa e Silva,Leandro Viana; Ramalho,Lívia Santos; Marques,Robelma France de Oliveira; Silveira,Dâmaris.
The National Policy of Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), and The National Policy of Medicinal Plants and Herbal Medicines (PNPMF) were launched in 2006. Based on these, the Brazilian Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) re-edited rules related to herbal medicines such as the Guideline to herbal medicine registration (RDC 14/10), the Good Manufacture Practices Guideline (RDC 17/10) and the List of references to assess the safety and efficacy of herbal medicines (IN 05/10). The requisites to prove herbal medicine's safety and efficacy were updated. Therefore, this review aims at presenting and commenting these new rules.
