Chilling tolerance in Zizania latifólia Horticultura Brasileira
Ye,Zihong; Cui,Haifeng; An,Xinxin; Yu,Xiaoping.
ABSTRACT: The tumescent stems of Zizania latifolia are consumed as vegetable in southern and eastern Asia. This study aimed to compare photosynthesis and chilling tolerance parameters between two well-known Zizania latifolia cultivars: Longjiao 2 and Zhejiao 911, which are chilling tolerant and sensitive, respectively. We found that severe cold stress induced photosynthesis inhibition (5°C) resulted from non-stomatal factors. However, net photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs) and transpiration rate (Tr) of the cultivar Longjiao 2 were higher than that of Zhejiao 911 with more gradual variations. Six parameters of chlorophyll fluorescence including latent activity of PSII (Fv/F0), efficiency of primary photochemistry (Fv/Fm), photochemical...

Photosynthesis at the far-red region of the spectrum in Acaryochloris marina Biol. Res.
Badshah,Syed Lal; Mabkhot,Yahia; Al–Showiman,Salim S..
Abstract Acaryochloris marina is an oxygenic cyanobacterium that utilizes far–red light for photosynthesis. It has an expanded genome, which helps in its adaptability to the environment, where it can survive on low energy photons. Its major light absorbing pigment is chlorophyll d and it has α–carotene as a major carotenoid. Light harvesting antenna includes the external phycobilin binding proteins, which are hexameric rods made of phycocyanin and allophycocyanins, while the small integral membrane bound chlorophyll binding proteins are also present. There is specific chlorophyll a molecule in both the reaction center of Photosystem I (PSI) and PSII, but majority of the reaction center consists of chlorophyll d. The composition...

Chlorophyll a fluorescence of sweet potato plants cultivated in vitro and during ex vitro acclimatization Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Cassana,Francine F.; Falqueto,Antelmo R.; Braga,Eugenia J. B.; Peters,Jose A.; Bacarin,Marcos A..
Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) plants were cultivated in vitro in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with 20 and 40 g L-1 of sucrose under two different photon flux densities (21 and 60 µmol m-2 s-1). Leaves developed in vitro mostly showed high variable to maximum fluorescence ratio (F V/F M) , indicating good development of photosynthetic apparatus. This ratio decreased during leaf aging, especially in the plants cultivated in vitro on medium with higher sucrose concentration and higher photon flux. Leaves developed ex vitro showed high F V/F M ratio during whole experiment. The effective photochemical efficiency (F V'/F M') was maximum at 15th day after emergence of leaves. Photosynthetic potential rate was higher in leaves developed in vitro than in...
