Use of penetrometers in agriculture: a review REA
Moraes,Moacir T. de; Silva,Vanderlei R. da; Zwirtes,Anderson L.; Carlesso,Reimar.
Soil physical quality can be easily and quickly evaluated by using simple equipment to identify levels of soil compaction. Hence, it is necessary to know the variables responsible for changes in the soil penetration resistance (SPR). The aim of this review is to identify the main factors related to the various equipment used for assessing SPR as a soil physical quality indicator in agriculture. This literature review describes the different types of equipment used and its relationship with SPR. A wide range of procedures, devices, and equipments are available. Much of variability in SPR results is related to the equipment model, cone angle and diameter, and penetration rate. Usually, restrictions to root growth are correlated with SPR values above 2-3 MPa....

Plantability and moisture content of naked and pelleted seeds of supersweet (Sh2) corn during cold storage conditions Rev. bras. sementes
Lagôa,André de Oliveira; Ferreira,Adriano César; Vieira,Roberval Daiton.
The supersweet (Sh2) corn seeds have a thin tegument and an irregular shape, which hinder the sowing procedure. As a function of those factors, the significance of using the pelleting process to improve sowing and standardize the stand of plants in the field without the need of thinning within the row is emphasized. Although this technique has already been known for many years, little has been studied on the effect of such procedure on the plantability and on the moisture content of the supersweet corn seeds. Therefore, this research work aimed at evaluating the effects of pelleting on the moisture content of the seeds along the storing process, on the occurrence of gaps on seed deposition and on the dropping of double seeds, with the aid of a testing...

Gas exchanges and growth of maize as affected by aeration porosity and soil compaction Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Francisca Gleiciane da; Assis Junior,Raimundo Nonato de; Mesquita,Rosilene Oliveira; Marques,Edilaine da Silva; Mota,Jaedson Cláudio Anunciato.
ABSTRACT Based on the hypothesis that less than 10% aeration porosity is sufficient to ensure plant development, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of levels of aeration porosity and soil density on the gas exchange and growth of maize plants. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, in randomized blocks in a 2 × 5 factorial arrangement: two densities (1.6 and 1.7 Mg m-3) and five aeration porosities (0.07, 0.08, 0.09, 0.10 and 0.12 m3 m-3), with five replicates. The interaction between the factors did not have an effect on the analyzed variables. Aeration porosity had a significant effect on photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, relative chlorophyll index (SPAD), plant height and biomass production, whose data were fitted by...

อิทธิพลของช่วงเวลาปลูกต่อผลผลิตและคุณภาพข้าวนาชลประทานสายพันธุ์ดีเด่น Thai Agricultural
Wannakorn Intarasatit; Sa-ang Chairin; Suradet Palawisut.
Climate change has an impact on rice yield and quality. Heat highly affects rice during flowering stage, as during the stage rice is extremely sensitive to temperature environment. It has been reported that, different rice variety was affected by temperature differently. For Asian country, the highest temperature during the day in summer was about 35 to 41oC or higher resulting in heat intolerance in rice that causes the high percentage of unfilled grain. Heat is also the major cause of cracked-grain leading to the higher number of broken milled rice after milling. The temperature which is higher than 35oC can cause a severe problem in rice plant development in either vegetative phase or reproductive phase that can be determined by the lower number of...
