| ABSTRACT A new species of Buchnera (Orobanchaceae) from Northeast Brazil is described and illustrated. Buchnera nordestina was first collected by Dr. Francisco Freire Allemão e Cysneiro ca. 160 years ago and remained undescribed until now. We provide notes on morphology, geographic distribution, and conservation status of the new species. Additionally, we present an updated identification key to all species of Buchnera from Brazil. Buchnera nordestina is characterized by long bracts that are usually two times longer than the calyx tube and by the presence of axillary brachyblasts, both of which are unique features within the genus. | Foi realizado o levantamento florístico das Bryopsida dos ecossistemas de cerrado e de mata ripícola do Parque Nacional de Sete Cidades localizado nos municípios de Piracuruca e Brasileira (04º0515'S e 41º3045'W), Piauí, Brasil. Foram identificadas 22 espécies de musgos pertencentes às famílias: Bartramiaceae (1 sp.), Bryaceae (2 sp.), Calymperaceae (2 sp.), Dicranaceae (3 sp.), Erpodiaceae (1 sp.), Fissidentaceae (6 sp.), Hypnaceae (1 esp.), Leucobryaceae (1 sp.), Pottiaceae (2 sp.), Sematophyllaceae (2 sp.) e Stereophyllaceae (1 sp.). | Visando ampliar o conhecimento sobre a mixobiota do Piauí, foram realizadas coletas no Parque Zoobotânico de Teresina (05º 05' 12'' S, 42º 48' 48'' WG). A vegetação do Parque caracteriza-se como um cerradão com representantes da mata de cocais, que oferecem substratos potencialmente favoráveis ao desenvolvimento de Myxomycetes. Esporocarpos foram coletados no período chuvoso e início da estiagem (março a junho de 1999), identificados e depositados no herbário UFP (Universidade Federal de Pernambuco). | Com o objetivo de contribuir para o conhecimento da fitofisionomia de transição de uma área no município de Campo Maior, recoberto pela vegetação denominada Complexo de Campo Maior, utilizou-se o método de quadrantes, considerando todos os indivíduos lenhosos incluídos cipós, com diâmetro do caule ao nível do solo (DNS) > 3cm. Foram alocados 100 pontos em cada área, Alto do Comandante e Baixão da Cobra, situadas na Fazenda Lourdes. Amostrou-se 46 espécies na primeira área e 44 na segunda, totalizando 68 espécies. Os valores de densidade e de área basal foram 2.730 e 2.799ind ha-1 e 38,22 e 38,58m² ha-1, respectivamente. | Abstract We present two pollen diagrams from the semi-arid Caatinga of the Catimbau National Park, in Pernambuco and from a Mauritia palm forest in the Caatinga/Cerrado ecotone of southern Piauí, NE Brazil, spanning the last 10,000 cal. yrs BP and the last 1,750 cal yrs BP, respectively. These two records contain a signature of the local vegetation and permit the correlation of the pollen signal with regional climatic changes. | Knowledge about the botanical source of honey is very important for the beekeeper while it indicates adequate and abundant supply sources of nectar and pollen for the bees, thus contributing toward improved yield. The present study means to identify the pollen types occurring in 58 samples of honey produced in two states of the northeastern region of Brazil, Piauí (38 samples) and Ceará (20 samples), and to verify the potential of the honey plants during the months of February to August. | Abstract: Here, we provide a list of seven species collected in the Brazilian states of Ceará, Maranhão and Piauí, housed in the Coleção Zoológica do Maranhão (CZMA), Cerantichir peruana (Hennig, 1937), Glyphidops durus (Cresson, 1926), Glyphidops filosus (Fabricius, 1805), Glyphidops flavifrons (Bigot, 1886), Glyphidops vittatus (Cresson, 1912), Nerius pilifer Fabricius, 1805 and Nerius plurivittatus Bigot, 1886. Representatives of Neriidae are recorded and mapped for the first time in the states of Ceará, Maranhão and Piauí, while the species C. peruana, G. durus, G. flavifrons and G. vittatus represent new records for the Northeast Region of Brazil. A key for the identification and diagnoses of Northeastern Brazilian neriids are provided. |

| ABSTRACT: This study aimed to evaluate the quality of forest biomass energy, coming from the Caatinga, for different storage times in the field. The study was conducted in southern Piauí, between January and February (rainy season). Samples were collected containing branches and trunks of various species, and samples of branches and trunks separately in 5 sample units of 20x20m. Samples were evaluated in the general state freshly harvested and samples of branches and logs after 15 and 30 days of storage in piles in the field. | O cultivo do abacaxi no estado do Piaui, ainda que incipiente, tem grandes possibilidades de desenvolvimento diante das condições ambientais prevalecentes. Os resultados obtidos neste trabalho preliminar sobre a cultura, demonstraram que nas condições edafoclimáticas de Teresina, é possivel o cultivo do abacaxi, variedade Smooth cayenne, obtendo-se frutos de valor comercial. Há necessidade de novos trabalhos de pesquisa, visando definir melhor as técnicas culturais, no que se refere a adubação, irrigação, espaçamento, densidade e indução floral. |

| A eficiência de programas de melhoramento de plantas em promover ganhos genéticos deve ser monitorada regularmente. Este estudo avaliou o progresso genético para produtividade, ciclo até a floração, altura de planta, resistência ao acamamento e resistência à brusone da panícula e mancha-dos-grãos, obtido pelo melhoramento de arroz de terras altas da Embrapa no período de 1996 a 2000. Nenhum ganho para produtividade foi obtido para os Estados de Goiás e Minas Gerais, enquanto que para o Meio-Norte (Maranhão e Piauí) e Mato Grosso o ganho foi de 1,20% e 1,85% ao ano, respectivamente.
