SOIL-PLANT NUTRIENT INTERACTIONS IN TWO MANGROVE AREAS AT SOUTHERN BRAZIL Acta biol.Colomb.
LANG MARTINS MADI,Ana Paula; TORRES BOEGER,Maria Regina; REISSMANN,Carlos Bruno; GERONAZZO MARTINS,Kelly.
Mangrove forests have a simple architecture. They shelter a few number of arboreal species that grow in a saline environment subject to tidal activity. The research objective was to evaluate possible interactions between physical-chemical soil attributes and plant-leaf nutrient concentrations of different mangrove species. Different mangrove species growing in the same soil, and the same mangrove species growing in two different soil classes were evaluated as to their leaf nutrient concentration patterns. The study was carried out in mangrove areas of the State of Paraná, southern Brazil, in two distinct soil classes: HISTOSOL THIOMORPHIC Salic sodic and GLEYSOL THIOMORPHIC Salic sodic; and three different species: Avicennia schaueriana, Laguncularia...

Nutrient release by a Brazilian sedimentary zeolite Anais da ABC (AABC)
Monte,Marisa B.M.; Middea,Antonieta; Paiva,Paulo R.P.; Bernardi,Alberto C.C.; Rezende,Nélio G.A.M.; Baptista-Filho,Milton; Silva,Marcelo G.; Vargas,Helion; Amorim,Helio S.; Souza-Barros,Fernando de.
This report describes the characterization of a sedimentary occurrence from the Parnaíba Basin, Brazil, containing the zeolite stilbite intertwined with smectitic clay mineral. The head samples from different sites present a wide content range of the zeolitic phase - 15% to 50%. The use of simple separation techniques - conventional gravitic treatments - yields concentrates containing about 67% of the zeolitic component. Assays with the amendments of these concentrates with plant nutrients yield release rates matching those reported for similar commercial products.

Microbial succession in a fermenting of wild forest noni (Morinda coreia Ham) fruit plus molasses and its role in producing a liquid fertilizer Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Kantachote,Duangporn; Kowpong,Kanjana; Charernjiratrakul,Wilawan; Pengnoo,Ashara.
The numbers of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and yeasts that were present during a wild forest noni (Morinda coreia Ham) fermentation, the changes in its physico-chemical properties and levels of plant nutrients were investigated. LAB increased rapidly during the first 7 days and were the dominant population until after day 21 when the LAB were declining and the yeasts began to dominate. Identification of the LAB and yeasts to species level showed that the dominant LAB throughout was Lactobacillus plantarum while Lactobacillus pentosus was found but only at day 21. Saccharomyces cerevisiae was the most dominant species of yeast throughout but was slowly replaced by Pichia membranifaciens and then Pichia anomala. Rhodotolura mucilaginosa, an aerobic yeast, was...

Effectiveness of Five Biosolids as Nitrogen Sources to Produce Single and Cumulative Ryegrass Harvests in Two Australian Soils Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Corrêa,Rodrigo Studart; Silva,Douglas José da.
ABSTRACT Biosolids have been produced by various stabilization processes of sewage sludge, but little attention has been given to the effects of such treatments on their effectiveness to supply nitrogen for plant growth. Here, we investigated these effects by cultivating Lolium perenne (ryegrass) in two Australian soils, a sandy Spodosol and a clayey Oxisol. Biosolids stabilized by either aerobic digestion, composting, CaO-liming, 250 oC heat-drying or solar irradiation of domestic sewage sludge were applied to soils at 10 increasing rates (0.25-8.0 dry Mg ha-1), and chemically fertilized soils were used as reference. Results showed that the stabilization processes affected biosolids-N agronomic rates and effectiveness to yield plant biomass, which was a...
