Operational performance of crop residue cutting discs in the no-tillage system CIGR Journal

The objective of this study was to evaluate the operating performance of crop residue cutting discs with distinct cutting edges in the no-tillage system, in relation to the travel speed of the tractor/tool holder set. The experiment was carried out in an experimental area, the soil classified as Paleudalf. The experiment consisted in a factorial arrangement of 4x4, totaling 16 combinations of treatments and three replications, composed by the interaction of the factors: crop residue cutting discs (plain flat disc, wavy disc, rippled disc, and helical wavy disc coulter) and travel speed (1.11; 1.67; 2.22 and 2.78 m s-1). Design and development of a vertical plate precision seed metering device with positive seed knockout mechanism CIGR Journal

Planting of seeds according to agronomical requirements is one of the most important and critical farm operations for crop cultivation. Placing of seeds at proper location is required to maintain plant to plant spacing in a row. A vertical plate precision seed metering device was designed and developed for field pea. Cells with three different depths of 8.48, 8.85 and 9.22 mm and three shapes of 20o, 30o and 40o left side angles were designed to obtain nine different plates. A seed metering device with different plates was fabricated and mounted on experimental setup. Design, fabrication and assessment of direct seeder in Benin Republic CIGR Journal

The need for efficient agricultural equipment that is compatible with the characteristics of farms remains a crucial issue in Africa. The aim of the work was to design, fabricate and test a seeder for direct seeding. The method used consisted in collecting the farmers’ needs and the weakness of some direct seeders in literature review. Then, the design of the planter components was carried out based on the characteristics of soil types and seeds in Benin Republic. Finally, a  technical drawing of the seeder was made on the computer. The seeder was manufactured in a mechanical workshop and tested in the field.
