| During June 1994, 44 beaches with "green-tides" were identified along the coasts of Brittany. Compared to previous years, seaweed amounts accumulated on beaches receiving nitrogen inputs from granitic catchments can be considered stable, contrary to beaches exposed to nutrient fluxes originating from schistous catchments, where an increase of accumulations is observed. This late process can be explained by an increase of nitrogen loadings during periods of heavy rain (late spring 1994) on impervious basement rocks. |
