Assessing the genetic structure of Oryza glumaepatula populations with isozyme markers BABT

To assess the genetic diversity and genetic structure parameters, nine populations of Oryza glumaepatula from the Amazon biome, four from the Pantanal biome, and one collected at Rio Xingu, Mato Grosso, totaling 14 populations and 333 individuals were studied with isozyme markers. Six loci were evaluated showing a moderate allozyme variability (A = 1.21, P = 20.7%, Ho = 0.005, He = 0.060). The populations from the Pantanal biome showed higher diversity levels than the Amazon biome. Genetic variability of three natural populations of Maytenus aquifolium (Celesteraceae) from Telêmaco Borba, Paraná, Brazil BABT

Three populations of Maytenus aquifolium from Monte Alegre farm, Telemaco Borba county, Paraná, Brazil were analyzed by RAPD markers. A total of 13 primers were applied wich yielded 283 well amplified markers in all the studied populations (Mortandade, Vila Preta and Trinita), producing different values of gene diversity and polymorphic loci. The analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) indicated that 21.77% of the genetic variation was among the population. Pairwise F ST analysis showed that the most divergent populations were closer geographically, demonstrating that other factors such as different soil types could explain this variation. Based on experimental population profiles of strains of the fly Megaselia scalaris (Phoridae), the minimal number of sample profiles was determined that should be repeated by bootstrap simulation process in order to obtain a confident estimation of the mean population profile and present estimations of the standard error as a precise measure of the simulations made. The development of resistance in cosmopolitan insect Helicoverpa armigera Hubner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) forced the researchers for alternative control measures. In the present study, insecticidal efficacy of formulations of Azadirachta indica, a Nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPV), and new anthranilic diamide insecticide (chlorantraniliprole) formulations was determined against 2nd, through 5th larval instars of H. armigera collected from diverse geographical locations in the Punjab province, Pakistan. La variabilidad del color de grano en 114 poblaciones criollas de maíz se clasificó en seis grupos, en el ciclo agrícola PV-2003. Se seleccionaron seis poblaciones, una del blanco, una del amarillo, una del rojo (rojo-2), dos del azul (azul-1 y azul-2) y una del púrpura (rojo-1), para establecer un sistema de cruzas dialélicas en el ciclo agrícola PV-2004. En la F1 semilla de las cruzas hubo diferencias entre progenitores, en la cantidad de antocianinas y su distribución en el pericarpio y en la capa de aleurona. El ácaro Steneotarsonemus spinki Smiley es una plaga del arroz, cultivo alimenticio de relevancia mundial. Se ha diseminado en diversas partes del mundo causando daños importantes. Se inocularon plantas de arroz var. Morelos A-92 con este ácaro con la finalidad de comprender mejor las lesiones que ocasiona para lo cual se evaluaron sus tasas poblaciones a lo largo del tiempo en diferentes fases del cultivo y se determinó el nivel de lesión morfológica e histológica causada por el ácaro. El estudio se realizó de enero a mayo del 2011 en la huerta comercial de mango (Mangifera indica) var. Manila “El Pantano” en Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, México. Se evaluaron aceite mineral, azufre, spinosad e imidacloprid para controlar escama blanca (A. tubercularis) y trips (F. invasor y F. cephalica), que son las principales plagas que atacan a este cultivo. Se llevaron a cabo muestreos periódicos para estimar las poblaciones de las plagas a combatir. Los resultados obtenidos se analizaron con el programa SAS para comparar medias con la prueba de medias de LSD (diferencia mínima significativa) y la prueba de Friedman con un valor de alfa de 0.05%. Within the boreal zone, there are about 50 native mammalian herbivore species that belong to the orders Artiodactyla, Rodentia, and Lagomorpha. Of these species, 31 occur in the Nearctic and 24 in the Palaearctic. Only six species occur in both regions. Species of the family Cervidae have probably been, and still are, the most important group for man, as they provide both meat and hides. Pelts from squirrels, muskrats, and hares were commercially harvested at the beginning of the century, but have less value today. In this study, we compared demographic responses of Eschscholzia californica populations located at different altitude, under the basic assumption that altitudinal gradients impose environmental limitation to the spread at the upper edge of the gradient. We detected significant differences among populations either in terms of life history attributes and the finite rate of increase. In general, coastal population expressed higher finite population rates than mountain populations, although these differences were not statistically significant. Дан обзор исследований донных беспозвоночных северо-западной части Черного моря за полувековой период (1950 – 2000 гг.). Показано влияние эвтрофирования на формирование видового богатства зообентоса, структуру донных биоценозов и деградацию некоторых из них в зонах повторяющихся крупномасштабных заморов. На основании нового метода определения индивидуального возраста мидий проанализированы такие популяционные характеристики, как показатели роста моллюсков, уровни их смертности и выживаемости. Более 25 лет успешно проводится изучение мейобентоса контактных зон моря.

Calanoid copepods are abundant in South American inland waters and include widespread species, such as Boeckella gracilipes (Daday, 1902), which occurs from the Ecuador to Tierra del Fuego Island. This species occurs under various environmental conditions, and is found in oligotrophic lakes in Patagonia (39-54°S) and in shallow mountain lakes north of 39°S. The aim of the present study is to conduct a morphometric comparison of male specimens of B. titicacae collected in Titicaca and B. gracilipes collected in Riñihue lakes, with a third population of B. gracilipes collected in shallow ponds in Salar de Surire. A systematic sampling of twenty stations was conducted over four periods within a year (June 1986, October 1986, February 1987, and May 1987) in Thau lagoon. Multivariate analyses (clustering, and principal coordinate analysis) were carried out on phytoplankton species counts. These analyses allowed homogenous areas within the lagoon to be identified and permitted the characterization of these areas in terms of the marine or continental origins of their phytoplankton taxa. Presence of two populations of Norwegian topknot, Phrynorhombus norvegicus (Pleuronectiformes: Scophthalmidae), in western European seas. <br>The Norwegian topknot Phrynorhombus norvegicus (Gunther, 1862) is a little flatfish belonging to the scoplithalmid family. Generally, in the literature, the habitat of this species is mentioned to be rocky bottoms of the north-eastern European seas between 10 to 180 in depth, while few references noticed its presence in the same area and depth on muddy bottoms as well. A study of fisheries data conducted by the trawlers of ISTPM and IFREMER between 1976 to 2001 in Celtic sea and Bay of Biscaye shows that Norwegian Topknot is a rarely caught species with 423 specimens fished in 25 years.
