Synthèse française des procédures d'estimation d'âge ArchiMer
Mahe, Kelig; Bellail, Robert; Dufour, Jean-louis; Boiron-leroy, Anne; Dimeet, Joel; Duhamel, Erwan; Elleboode, Romain; Felix, Jerome; Grellier, Patrick; Huet, Jerome; Labastie, Jacques; Le Roy, Didier; Lizaud, Oceann; Manten, Marie-line; Martin, Stephane; Metral, Luisa; Nedelec, Daniel; Verin, Yves; Badts, Vincent.
This document presents all the techniques used in routine by Ifremer to estimate the age of fish from the calcified piece. The procedure for estimating age describes each technical stage from the taking of the calcified piece through to the supplying of key sizes/ages to the European work groups. This procedure is specific to each species and even each population of fish.

A new preparatory approach of decapod and thoracican crustaceans from the Middle Danian at Fakse, Denmark Naturalis
Jakobsen, Sten Lennart.
Many papers on the taxonomy of fossil crustaceans are often based upon poorly preserved material and/or specimens that have been insufficiently prepared. The purpose of the present note is to outline some preparation methods that are applied in our (J.S.H. Collins and S.L.J.) ongoing studies of anomuran and brachyuran decapods from the Middle Danian limestones at Fakse quarry (Denmark), which have greatly enhanced the quality of our material. The techniques briefly outlined here involve: 1 – staining method; 2 – water blasting (as a cleaning tool in preparation of fossils); and 3 – negative preparation (with acid). Some of these techniques will have wide applications in other fields of paleontological research.

Changing business environment: implications for farming AgEcon
Malcolm, Bill.
The natural, technological, economic, political and social environment in which farmers farm constantly changes. History has lessons about change in agriculture and about farmers coping with change, though the future is unknowable and thus always surprising. The implication for farm operation is to prepare, do not predict.

การเตรียมและสมบัติของฟิล์มชีวภาพประกอบด้วยแป้งข้าวเจ้า/คาร์บอกซีเมทิลเซลลูโลสจากเปลือกทุเรียน Thai Agricultural
Rungsiri Suriyatem; Pornchai Rachtanapun.
Rice starch/carboxymethyl cellulose from durian rind (RS/CMCd) biocomposite films were prepared. The effect of ratios between RS and CMCd were used in a film forming solution on transparency, color, morphology, and mechanical properties of RS/CMCd composite films was investigated. Each RS/CMCd composite film was translucent. A higher amount of CMCd affected the transmittance at 660 nm of these composite films increased and the absorbance decreased. When the CMCd content increased, L*, a* and WI (whiteness index) value of the composite films decreased while b* and E value increased. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed homogenious crosssectional surface for the pure RS and CMCd film while the other RS/CMCd composite films showed the rough surface....

Use of chitosan gel for the purification of protein BABT
Tang,ZhenXing; Qian,JunQing.
The aim of this study was to optimize the preparation of chitosan gel and to use it for protein purification. The optimized preparation parameters were chitosan concentration 2.0%, glutaraldehyde concentration 0.6%, low cross-linking rate, NaOH concentration 1.6%, amount of NaBH4 0.4 g. In order to use the chitosan gel, the elution conditions were optimized as follows. NaCl concentration 0.05 mol/L in the tris-HCl (pH 9.05) at the flow rate of 2.03.0 mL/min. Particle size of chitosan gel was 120-140 µm. Neutral protease could be separated into four ingredients through chitosan gel column. The yield of enzyme was more than 90%. Albumin bovine serum could be separated into two ingredients through gel column and the total yield of albumin bovine serum was...

Experimental context modulates warning signal effects BJMBR
Machado-Pinheiro,W.; Faria Jr.,A.J.P.; Gawryszewski,L.G.; Ribeiro-do-Valle,L.E..
Previous studies have shown that saccadic eye responses but not manual responses were sensitive to the kind of warning signal used, with visual onsets producing longer saccadic latencies compared to visual offsets. The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of distinct warning signals on manual latencies and to test the premise that the onset interference, in fact, does not occur for manual responses. A second objective was to determine if the magnitude of the warning effects could be modulated by contextual procedures. Three experimental conditions based on the kind of warning signal used (visual onset, visual offset and auditory warning) were run in two different contexts (blocked and non-blocked). Eighteen participants were asked to...

Looking for the GAP effect in manual responses and the role of contextual influences in reaction time experiments BJMBR
Faria Jr.,A.J.P.; Machado-Pinheiro,W..
When the offset of a visual stimulus (GAP condition) precedes the onset of a target, saccadic reaction times are reduced in relation to the condition with no offset (overlap condition) - the GAP effect. However, the existence of the GAP effect for manual responses is still controversial. In two experiments using both simple (Experiment 1, N = 18) and choice key-press procedures (Experiment 2, N = 12), we looked for the GAP effect in manual responses and investigated possible contextual influences on it. Participants were asked to respond to the imperative stimulus that would occur under different experimental contexts, created by varying the array of warning-stimulus intervals (0, 300 and 1000 ms) and conditions (GAP and overlap): i) intervals and...
