Moser, Anke.
The present article discusses several pricing patterns and promotion activities in the German grocery retail industry. Special sales offers on the one hand and continuous pricing on the other hand affect the price instability of several selected products. Altogether the grocery retail industry exerts a stabilizing effect on prices in comparison with the price instability of agricultural commodities in the world market. Different price levels for products in some retail outlets show that a mixed price calculation is used. Price elasticities in the elastic part of the demand function for four selected products indicate that consumers react strongly to price discounts at the point of sale. Beside pricing strategies, different promotion activities affect...

Price Sensitivities for U.S. Frozen Dairy Products AgEcon
Maynard, Leigh J.; Veeramani, Venkat N..
Price elasticities and flexibilities for frozen dessert products were estimated from weekly scanner data, with emphasis on functional form selection, system misspecification testing, and endogeneity testing. Reciprocals of elasticities and elasticity matrix inversion were invalid means of obtaining flexibility estimates, leaving direct estimation as the only viable, albeit resource-intensive, approach.

ON THE SUPPLY FUNCTION OF THE HUNGARIAN PORK MARKET AgEcon
Nyars, Levente; Vizvari, Bela.
The Hungarian pork market has been in a decreasing position in the last years. The main reasons for that is the increasing international competition, the Hungarian support system has been replaced by CMO of pigmeat and the decrease of pig meat consumption as a result of customer behaviour. There was no exact estimation of the Hungarian supply function. In a earlier paper we have published for regression equations for it. In the first part of present paper we show that these equations forecasted in a appropriate way the pessimistic scenario. The second part of paper discusses revisited, new regression equations.

The Estimation of Food Demand Elasticities in Canada AgEcon
Pomboza, Ruth; Mbaga, Msafiri Daudi.
Changing consumer and market demands is an important driver behind the challenges and opportunities that are facing the agriculture and agri-food sector in Canada and that will influence the sector's profitability and competitiveness in the future. It is therefore important to understand developments in the consumer demand for agriculture and agri-food products. The report provides updated demand elasticities for fourteen food groups in Canada. The estimates are useful for conducting analysis of the changing structure of the agriculture and agri-food sector and can help quantify the impacts that changes in economic variables and policies that impact those economic variables might have.

The Theoretical Structure of Producer Willingness to Pay Estimates AgEcon
Zapata, Samuel D.; Carpio, Carlos E..
This paper analyzes the theoretical underpinnings of producers’ willingness to pay (WTP) for novel inputs. In addition to conceptualizing the WTP function for producers, we derive its comparative statics and demonstrate the use of these properties to estimate input quantities demanded, outputs supplied, and price elasticities. We also discuss implications of the comparative statics results for the specification of empirical producer WTP models and survey design.
