Application of Pricing Strategy in the Management of Recreational Fishery AgEcon

This paper analyzes the feasibility of carrying out various pricing strategies in recreational fishery management. It also introduces the four common pricing means, which are time (season) differential pricing, customer differential pricing, quantity discount and two-part tariff system. The effects of pricing strategy of recreational fishery on social welfare are studied taking time (season) differential pricing as an example.

Does Price Signal Quality? Strategic Implications of Price as a Signal of Quality for the Case of Genetically Modified Food AgEcon

We add to the limited empirical literature on consumers' use of price as a quality signal by testing if the traditional downward-sloping consumption-price relationship fails to hold for GM products using data collected from a nationally representative mail survey featuring several hypothetical product choice scenarios. Statistical evidence is mixed across the three products investigated but suggests that survey respondents use price as a signal of the quality of GM products. Implications for firm strategy are discussed.

Promotion and Fast Food Demand: Where's the Beef? AgEcon

Many believe that fast food promotion is a significant cause of the obesity epidemic in North America. Industry members argue that promotion only reallocates brand shares and does not increase overall demand. This study weighs into the debate by specifying and estimating a discrete/continuous model of fast food restaurant choice and food expenditure that explicitly accounts for both spatial and temporal determinants of demand. Estimates are obtained using a unique panel of Canadian fast food consumers. The results show that promotion primarily increases demand and has very little effect on restaurant market shares.
