MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS OF PEANUT MECHANIZED HARVESTING REA
Noronha,Rafael H. F.; Zerbato,Cristiano; Silva,Rouverson P. da; Ormond,Antonio T. S.; Oliveira,Mailson F. de.
ABSTRACT The peanuts harvesting mechanization is affected by the soil physical characteristics and it may increase the losses due to the production of pods in subsurface. The objective of the experiment was to identify the clusters through multivariate exploratory approaches from similarity in six soil textures (very clayey, clayey, silty clayey loam, clayey loam, sandy loam and sandy) in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, determining the main agronomic variables that most influenced the clustering division to assist the decision-making process in peanuts mechanized harvesting. The data were analyzed by the multivariate exploratory that is performed to simplify the description of a set of interrelated variables, using: yield, maturity, soil and pod moisture...

Use of otolith-shape analysis for stock discrimination of Boops boops along the Algerian coast (southwestern Mediterranean Sea) ArchiMer
Ider, D.; Ramdane, Z.; Mahe, Kelig; Dufour, Jean-louis; Bacha, M.; Amara, R..
Otolith-shape analysis was examined to determine its utility for biological stock identification of the bogue Boops boops along the Algerian coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The outlines of 179 sagittal otolith pairs from fish collected at three locations (Oran, Bejaia and Annaba) between 2013 and 2016 were digitised and analysed for shape variation by elliptical Fourier analysis. Potential confounding sources of variation (fish length, age and sex, and left or right otolith position) were examined and accounted for in the analyses before interpretation of spatial differences in distribution of the stock. Redundancy analysis showed a significant difference between the left and right otoliths. No difference was correlated with sex and age, but fish length...

Empirical modelling of the growth of Ruditapes philippinarum by means of non linear regression on factorial coordinates ArchiMer
Goulletquer, Philippe; Bacher, Cedric.
In order to highlight the main factors accounting for the growth of clams in Marennes Oleron Bay, three locations were investigated in 1984-1985. First, factor analysis provided information on fluctuations of the environment. Second, principal components analysis was used to study ecological phenomena. The main axes explained the growth rate, which was included in an allometric model. Its properties were then studied by means of sensitivity analysis.

Coastal zones inventory by high resolution satellites ArchiMer
Loubersac, Lionel.
The development of tools for assessing impacts on coastal environments is a reality. These impact assessments need both baseline and monitoring studies. Satellite remote sensing data would be useful for coastal inventories (baselines) and monitoring if high spatial and temporal resolutions are yield compatible. An overview of the various sensors that could be used is presented. The constraints linked to the different resolutions are exposed. An example based on Spot simulated data and trends are developed.

The Measurement of the Energy Intensity of Manufacturing Industries: A Principal Components Analysis AgEcon
Bernard, Jean-Thomas; Cote, Bruno.
Energy intensity is the ratio of energy use to output. Most industries deal with several energy sources and outputs. This leads to the usual difficulties of aggregating heterogeneous inputs and outputs. We apply principal components analysis to assess the information derived from six energy intensity indicators. We use two measures of total energy use (thermal and economic) and three measures of industry output (value added, value of production, and value of shipments). The data comes from manufacturing industries in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia from 1976 to 1996. We find that the variation of the six energy intensity indicators that is accounted for by the first principal component is quite large. However, depending on how variables are...

Using panel data to estimate the effect of rainfall shocks on smallholders food security and vulnerability in rural Ethiopia AgEcon
Demeke, Abera Birhanu; Zeller, Manfred.
Ethiopia's agriculture is predominantly rainfed and hence any irregularity in weather conditions has adverse welfare implications. Using panel data, this paper analyzes the effect of rainfall shocks on Ethiopian rural households' food security and vulnerability over time while controlling for a range of other factors. To this end, we generated a time-variant household food security index which is developed by principal components analysis. Based on the scores of the index, households were classified into relative food security groups and their socioeconomic differences were assessed. The exploratory results show that compared to the less secured households, the more secured ones have male and literate household heads, tend to have a greater number of...

Structure and dynamics of the community of periphytic algae in a subtropical reservoir (state of São Paulo, Brazil) Acta Botanica
Taniwaki,Ricardo Hideo; Borghi,Tatiana Cintra; Magrin,Albano Geraldo Emílio; Calijuri,Maria do Carmo; Bottino,Flávia; Moschini-Carlos,Viviane.
Much remains to be learned about biological diversity, which constitutes a valuable natural resource. Due to the pressure that human activity has put on natural resources, biodiversity has been reduced, often unbeknownst to those responsible for that activity. Therefore, we aimed to perform a quantitative and qualitative analysis of periphytic algae in the Itupararanga reservoir, correlating the results with the physical and chemical characteristics of the water, as well as with climatic conditions. To that end, five samples were collected at four sampling stations in the Itupararanga reservoir during the year 2010. Aquatic macrophytes were collected with a 156-cm² frame, and the periphytic algae were scraped free of the macrophytes with a brush. Samples...

Morphological, molecular and FTIR spectroscopic analysis during the differentiation of kidney cells from pluripotent stem cells Biol. Res.
Mata-Miranda,Monica Maribel; Vazquez-Zapien,Gustavo Jesus; Rojas-Lopez,Marlon; Sanchez-Monroy,Virginia; Perez-Ishiwara,David Guillermo; Delgado-Macuil,Raul Jacobo.
Abstract Background Kidney diseases are a global health problem. Currently, over 2 million people require dialysis or transplant which are associated with high morbidity and mortality; therefore, new researches focused on regenerative medicine have been developed, including the use of stem cells. Results In this research, we generate differentiated kidney cells (DKCs) from mouse pluripotent stem cells (mPSCs) analyzing their morphological, genetic, phenotypic, and spectroscopic characteristics along differentiation, highlighting that there are no reports of the use of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy to characterize the directed differentiation of mPSCs to DKCs. The genetic and protein experiments proved the obtention of DKCs that passed...

Adasme-Berríos,Cristian; Jara-Rojas,Roberto; Ramos-Cabello,Bárbara; Rodríguez,Marcelo; Mora,Marcos.
The main objective of this article was to analyze consumer responses to agricultural produce advertising. A survey was given to a non-probabilistic sample of 400 consumers in Rancagua, the capital city of the O'Higgins Region. A principal components analysis (PCA) was performed to identify the main factors influencing the consumption of agricultural produce and recognized four factors that influence the consumption of agricultural products: influence of advertising, impact of produce advertising, consumption of vegetables, and advertising preference. Additionally, the market segments that respond to agricultural produce advertising were identified using decision-tree methodology (CHAID). The results show that education is the most important segmenting...

External preference map to evaluate the acceptance of light and diet yogurt preparedusingnatural sweeteners Ciência Rural
Carvalho,Daiana Aparecida de; Valente,Gerson de Freitas Silva; Assumpção,Giovana Maria Pereira.
ABSTRACT: Owing to the high demand for healthier foods, the food industry has been marketing diet and light yogurts. The present study aimed to sensorially evaluate yogurts prepared using natural sweeteners through a simple centroid mixture design with three repetitions at the central point using the preference map methodology. Different formulations were processed using stevia, xylitol, and sucrose in delimited proportions based on the sweetness of the sweetener. A team of tasters was recruited to survey the sensory attributes of the formulations using the check-all-that-apply (CATA) methodology. A product acceptance analysis was also conducted in which 50 consumers evaluated the formulations using a 9-point hedonic scale. After assessing the acceptance,...

Water quality index in two land use situations in the Mantiqueira Range Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Pinto,Leandro Campos; Mello,Carlos Rogério de; Ferreira,Daniel Furtado; Ávila,Léo Fernandes.
The use of a large number of water quality indicators increases the costs of streamflow monitoring throughout the time. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) can be considered a promised tool for water resources management, allowing a reduction in the dimensionality of the data and facilitating their analyses. This study aimed to obtain a water quality index (WQI) to characterize the Mantiqueira Range region. Water quality indicators from a sub-basin entirely occupied by Atlantic Forest and from another predominantly occupied by pasture were normalized and used to compose the WQI. The normalized values were submitted to a PCA evaluation and the WQI was then calculated. The Indicators with greatest weight, according to the PCA, were total coliform, nitrate,...
