| This work presents a methodological approach to characterize the infiltrations conditions in Paraiba do Sul river basin (7,600 km2). To each landscape feature (rock, and structure, relief, soil, rainfall and land-use) was applied a loading that corresponded to higher (5) or lower (1) influence in the infiltration potential through its geographical postion. A Map of Infiltration was created in ArcGIS. The results showed that areas with higher infiltration capacity are located in Serra da Bocaina in the Northeast region or associated with Serra do Mar relief in the Southeast region as well as with gentle hills and sandstones along the Paraiba do Sul river.
