| Banana fruits are susceptible to chilling injury (CI) under field conditions, which significantly impairs fruit quality. Cold tolerance varies among genotypes; however, only a limited number of cultivars have been identified as tolerant and are commercially cultivated. This study aimed to investigate the physiological responses and quality attributes of banana cultivars exposed to natural cold fronts during development, compared with fruits developed under summer conditions. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar porta‑enxertos alternativos ao limoeiro 'Cravo' comum, para produção de laranja 'Pêra', nas condições dos Tabuleiros Costeiros de Sergipe. Foram avaliados 43 porta‑enxertos quanto a altura, copa, taxa fotossintética, teor de prolina, eficiência produtiva, produção e produtividade por planta. O limoeiro 'Cravo' comum foi considerado como padrão. | O estresse hidrico afeta profundamente o metabolismo celular vegetal. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se quantificar os efeitos da deficiencia hidrica e sua recuperacao sobre a atividade das enzimas do metabolismo do nitrogenio: redutase do nitrato (RN), glutamina sintetase (GS) e glutamato sintase (GOGAT) e sobre o acumulo de prolina em plantas dos genotipos de milho BR 2121 e BR 205. | Virola surinamensis is a forest species widely distributed in the estuaries of the Amazon. These ecosystems are susceptible to contamination by Cadmium (Cd), indicating that the plant has strategies for tolerating this metal. The aim of this study was to assess the nitrogen and carbon metabolism of young plants of Ucuúba (Virola surinamensis) in the presence of cadmium with the perspective of the phytoremediation of contaminated environments. | Abstract: Eragrostis plana Nees is a perennial grass weed, native to South Africa and an invasive species of dry rangelands across Asia, Australia, and South America. We hypothesise that E. plana has evolved mechanisms of acclimation to drought conditions to a greater extent than bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum), an important native grass forage species of livestock rangelands of Brazil, leading to a competitive advantage. | In order to evaluate changes in leaf water potential (?w) and solute accumulation induced by intermittent drought, a research was performed under greenhouse conditions using four umbu tree genotypes (GBU 44, GBU 48, GBU 50 and GBU 68) and two water treatments (control and stressed by withholding water), with four replicates. The ?w was measured in four-hour intervals during a 24-hour period at the first stomatal closure and at the end of the experimental period. | In most northwest provinces of Iran such as West Azarbaijan province, soil salinity is a growing problem, particularly in irrigated agricultural areas, and has been found to reduce barley yield, dramatically. To investigate the effect of sodium chloride on two barley (Hordeum vulgare) cultivars, four levels of salinity: 0, 4, 8 and 12 dS/m, were employed as a factorial experiment arranged in a completely randomized design with three replications in a controlled environment of the greenhouse during 2017-2018. | This investigation was conducted to study the impacts of using sewage sludge at different concentrations (0, 10, 25, 50, 75%) in amendment of desert reclaimed soil properties and some physiological aspects in wheat and jews mallow plants. Generally adding sewage sludge to desert soil improved the soil texture, raised the organic matter contents, water holding capacity and lowered pH value. The contents of NPK gradually increased as the ratio of sewage sludge increased.
