Effects of High Altitude on Morphophysiological Patterns, Perception and Attention Capacity in Students from Putre (3500 m.a.s.l.) and Arica (2 m.a.s.l.), Chile International Journal of Morphology
Espinoza-Navarro,O; Graú,S.
High altitude hypoxia is a stress that triggers several adaptive mechanisms, one of which is how the brain responds to lack of oxygen. The aim of this study was to determine changes in morphological and physiological patterns and in the attention capacity and perception in student populations from the highlands and from a sea level location. Eighty students, aged 14 to 16 years old, both sexes, from the Municipalities of Putre (3500 m.a.s.l.) and Arica (2 m.a.s.l.) participated in this study, with each group composed of 20 women and 20 men. After informed consent was obtained and with the students acceptance, parameters such as weight, height, BMI, heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressures were obtained. Subsequently, a psychometric test of...

Factor structure of Bech's version of the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale in Brazilian patients BJMBR
Crippa,J.A.S.; Sanches,R.F.; Hallak,J.E.C.; Loureiro,S.R.; Zuardi,A.W..
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the factor structure of Bech's version of the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), translated into Portuguese. The BPRS was administered to a heterogeneous group of psychiatric inpatients (N = 98) and outpatients (N = 62) in a University Hospital. Each patient was evaluated from one to eight times. The interval between consecutive interviews was one week for the inpatients and one month for the outpatients. The results were submitted to factorial analysis. The internal consistency of the total scale and of each factor was also estimated. Factorial analysis followed by normalized orthogonal rotation (Varimax) yielded four factors: Withdrawal-Retardation, Thinking Disorder, Anxious-Depression and...

Cross-cultural adaptation of Hypertension Knowledge Test into European Portuguese BJPS
Cabral,Ana C.; Moura-Ramos,Mariana; Castel-Branco,Margarida; Caramona,Margarida; Fernandez-Llimos,Fernando; Figueiredo,Isabel V..
ABSTRACT We aim to validate a European-Portuguese version of the Hypertension Knowledge Test (HKT) questionnaire and examine its factorial structure with a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). A process of translation and back-translation was performed. A cross-sectional study was developed in which all adult patients taking at least one antihypertensive drug were invited to participate. Data on personal and family history were collected, and the HKT, Strelec, and the Batalla questionnaires were administered. We enrolled 304 patients with a mean age of 68.12±10.83 years. The mean score of HKT was 15.33±2.79. CFA indicated that the construct being tested was unidimensional, and Cronbach’s alpha (α=0.65) showed that the instrument had an acceptable internal...
