Hawm Gra Dung Ngah rice variety was collected from Tak Bai district, Narathiwat province in 2009. The promising line, PTNC09002-59 was pure-line selected from the 59th row out of 200 rows. It is a photoperiod-sensitive, non-glutinous rice flowering in the mid of February, Its height is 159 centimeters with 10 panicle per hill. Its average grain yields under intra-station yield trial in Pattani, farmer field trials in Nhong Chik district, Pattani and in Tak Bai district, Narathiwat was 501, 385 and 383 kilograms per rai, respectively. Traditional aromatic rice is well known for its jasmine aroma of cooked rice and well adaptations under the variation of paddy field conditions in northeast Thailand. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the agronomic characteristic and reaction of the selected traditional aromatic rice to important diseases. The experimental design was randomized complete Block composed of 4 replications, during wet season 2013, at Sakon Nakhon Rice Research Center. Ten rice cultivars were tested compared with 4 standard checks such as Khao Dawk Mali 105, RD6, RD15 and Sakon Nakhon. “Buer Ner Moo” a rain phase aromatic Highland rice variety, was planted on rice terrace that a hilltribe who called themselves Pwakin-nyaw (Kariang) was the owner. The rice name was Pwakin-nyaw’s language that means “Aromatic rice” same as its physical characteristic. Buer Ner Moo was a land race rice variety, which have been bred by Pwakinnyaw farmer selection. It was kept from generation to next generation until now. Therefore, it still closely related to Pwakin-nyaw’s community. If it was developed to pure variety and to Geographical Indications (GI), that was the way to increase its value. “Beu Ner Moo” rainfed aromatic highland rice varieties were planted on rice terrace by hilltribe Pwakin-nyaw (Karen). The name means aromatic rice which were selected by Pwakin-nyaw farmers long time ago and still grown as a special varieties until now. Due to their impurity, pure line selection was the breeding methodology and geographical indications (GI) was the way to increase their value. There were three steps to develop Beu Ner Moo. 1) Collecting 48 Beu Ner Moo rice varieties from 4 districts of Chiang Mai including Mae Ai, Chiang Dao, Chai Prakan and Mae Chaem. 2) Purifying Beu Ner Moo rice by pure line selection according to their morphological characters and can be classified into 10 groups. ข้าวขึ้นน้ำพันธุ์ใหม่ "ขาวบ้านนา 432" 106

Khao Bahn Nah 432 (KBN 432) is a photoperiod sensitive floating rice variety. The harvesting period is about 10-14 December. The average yield is 2.8 tons/ha, whereas Plai Ngahm Prachinburi (PNG) is 2.0 tons/ha. The percentage of the yield is over PNG about 35%. The variety has good elongation ability. The result had shown good performance at water level 110 cms depth. It was better than RD19 (deepwater rice) but less than Pin Gaew 56 (Floating rice). The average of plant height is 218 cms (depend on water level). The reactions of bacterial leaf blight and brown planthopper of KBN432 is susceptible.
