Heritability estimation in early generations of two-way crosses in soybean Bragantia
Costa,Marcelo Marchi; Di Mauro,Antonio Orlando; Unêda-Trevisoli,Sandra Helena; Arriel,Nair Helena Castro; Bárbaro,Ivana Marino; Silveira,Gustavo Dias; Muniz,Frando Romero Silva.
The estimation of genetic parameters, especially in early generations, is very useful for directing the selection process in breeding programs. The present research was undertaken to estimate heritabilities in the broad sense, narrow sense and using parent-offspring regression in F3 soybean populations from six two-way crosses, originated from the Soybean Breeding Program of Faculdade de Ciências Agrárias e Veterinárias (UNESP), Jaboticabal campus. It was used the family design with common checks located ten plots apart. It was observed highly significant differences among families. The experimental coefficient of variation (CVe), the CVg/CVe ratio and the heritability showed wide variation among traits, being the highest values found for number of pods,...

Morphoagronomic genetic diversity in american wild rice species BABT
Veasey,Elizabeth Ann; Silva,Edson Ferreira da; Schammass,Eliana Aparecida; Oliveira,Giancarlo Conde Xavier; Ando,Akihiko.
To characterize the genetic variability among species and populations of South American wild rice, eleven populations of Oryza glumaepatula, seven of O. grandiglumis, four of O. latifolia and one of O. alta, from Brazil and Argentina, were evaluated. A greenhouse experiment was conducted in completely randomized blocks with 23 treatments. Twenty morphoagronomic traits were assessed. Univariate analyses were performed with 16 quantitative traits with the partitioning of populations within species. Significant differences (p<0.001) between species were observed for all the traits as well as among populations within the species. The most variable was O. glumaepatula followed by O. latifolia. Multivariate discriminant canonical and cluster analyses...

Diversity of Genetic Resources and Genetic Association Analyses of Green and Dry Chillies of Eastern India Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Chattopadhyay,Arup; Baran Sharangi,Amit; Dai,Nuka; Dutta,Subrata.
Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) is regarded as one of the main commercial vegetable and spice crops at the global level. Maximum diversity can be noted among the cultivars/landraces available in India with respect to shape, size, yield, quality, and other traits. The present experiment was conducted to identify the most promising chilli variety suited for green and dry purposes, to study the genetic variability for different traits and to assess the association of different yield attributing traits with the green and dry yield of chilli. Thirty four genotypes were characterized during a 2-yr period. Most of the genotypes possessed the character constellation of C. annuum. Two genotypes, ‘Chaitali Pointed’ and ‘BC CH Sel-4’ were found most promising with...

Pleiotropic effects of the sdw1 locus in barley populations representing different rounds of recombination Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Kuczyńska,Anetta; Mikołajczak,Krzysztof; Ćwiek,Hanna.
Background In the present study populations, representing different rounds of recombination were used for the analysis of phenotypic effects associated with the sdw1/denso locus. Other studies have mostly focused only on one type of population. Many different QTLs mapped at the same position as the sdw1/denso locus may indicate a pleiotropy of this gene or a tight linkage between genes conditioning quantitative traits. To date, results of studies have not unequivocally proven either of these two phenomena. Results Both breeding and molecular mapping experiments were undertaken to examine 200 single seed descent (SSD) and 60 doubled haploid (DH) lines obtained from the Maresi (with a semi-dwarfing gene) and Pomo cross combination. They were evaluated for...

Quantitative inheritance of some wheat plant traits Genet. Mol. Biol.
Novoselovic,D.; Baric,Marijana; Drezner,G.; Gunjaca,J.; Lalic,A..
The objective of this study was to estimate gene effects and genetic variability for some quantitative traits of two winter wheat crosses (Soissons/Zitarka and Soissons/Sana) by generation mean analysis. In most cases a digenic epistatic model was sufficient to explain variation in generation means. The additive-dominance model was adequate for plant height and grain weight per spike of the longest culm. In two cases (grain yield per plant and single grain weight) these models failed to explain variation in generation means, implying the presence of higher order interactions or interactions between linked loci. Dominance effects and additive x additive epistasis were more important than additive effects and other epistatic components. Only complementary...

Taxonomic and evolutionary analysis of Zaprionus indianus and its colonization of Palearctic and Neotropical regions Genet. Mol. Biol.
Commar,Leliane Silva; Galego,Luis Gustavo da Conceição; Ceron,Carlos Roberto; Carareto,Claudia Marcia Aparecida.
Zaprionus indianus is a dipteran (Drosophilidae) with a wide distribution throughout the tropics and temperate Palearctic and Nearctic regions. There have been proposals to reclassify the genus Zaprionus as a subgenus or group of the genus Drosophila because various molecular markers have indicated a close relationship between Zaprionus species and the immigrans-Hirtodrosophila radiation within Drosophila. These markers, together with alloenzymes and quantitative traits, have been used to describe the probable scenario for the expansion of Zaprionus indianus from its center of dispersal (Africa) to regions of Asia (ancient dispersal) and the Americas (recent dispersal). The introduction of Z. indianus into Brazil was first reported in 1999 and the current...

Influence of obesity gene in quantitative traits of swine Genet. Mol. Biol.
Borges,Graciele Segantini do Nascimento; Goulart,Luiz Ricardo.
Genotype data of 477 animals of several swine races (Landrace - LD, Large White - LW, Pietrain - PI, LWXLDXPI, Piau, Monteiro, and unknown race) were obtained to determine the allele frequency of the obesity gene. Genotype data of 174 crossbred swine (LWXLDXPI) were also obtained, in order to assess its correlation with carcass evaluation data (lean meat percentage, backfat thickness at P2, loin eye area, adjacent fat area, total fat and meat). Finally, genotype data of 96 pure swine (Landrace, Large White and Pietrain) were collected, to establish its relation with meat quality (drip loss, meat color, texture analysis and intramuscular fat) and carcass evaluation data (lean meat percentage; ham, loin, shoulder and belly weights; and backfat thickness at...

Multivariate estimate of heritability for quality traits in tomatoes by the multiple factor analysis PAB
Medico,Ana Paula Del; Cabodevila,Victoria Guadalupe; Vitelleschi,María Susana; Pratta,Guillermo Raúl.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate a multiple factor analysis approach to estimate heritability for quality traits in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum), taking as a reference the values of heritability obtained through the classical method offspring-parent regression. A total of 18 F3 tomato families originated from the selfing of 18 individuals from a second-cycle hybrid were evaluated. In both generations, ten quantitative traits related to fruit quality were assessed. The multiple factor analysis showed that some of the evaluated traits performed differently and others similarly between generations. Heritability is low or null for some traits, such as shelf life and reflectance percentage, and high for others, as weight and shape. That...

Association between insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) microsatellite polymorphisms and important economic traits in pigs R. Bras. Zootec.
Faria,Danielle Assis de; Peixoto,Jane de Oliveira; Lopes,Paulo Sávio; Paiva,Samuel Rezende; Silva,Priscila Vendramini; Guimarães,Simone Eliza Facioni.
This study investigated the association between IGF-I microsatellite marker in an F2 population (N=459) generated by mating of native boars to Brazilian commercial sows with performance, carcass cut, and meat quality traits. Association analyses were carried out using a statistical model that included genotype, sex, and group as fixed effects and sire as random effect. The IGF-I genotypes were significantly associated with different quantitative traits and these results corroborate with previous QTL analyses obtained for this chromosome region in swine. Additive and dominance effects, as well as a genotype-sex interaction, were estimated and discussed in the text. According to the results obtained, this marker is suitable for QTL search in the genotyped...
