Productive characteristics of maize hybrids at different cutting heights for silage and organic matter and mineral rates in post-harvest residues - doi: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v35i2.16642 Animal Sciences
Jobim, Clóves Cabreira; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Oliveira, Fabio Cortez Leite de; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Bumbieris Junior, Valter Harrys; Universidade Estadual de Londrina; Silva, Michele Simili da; Universidade Estadual de Londrina.
Current trial evaluated yield, organic matter and mineral composition of the residual harvest of five maize hybrids at three cutting heights (15, 35 and 55 cm). The experimental design consisted of a randomized block split plot with three replications. Concentrations of N, P, K, Ca, MS, MM and MO in the samples were evaluated. No difference among hybrids occurred in stem diameter (22.4 mm), ear production (8.0 ton DM ha-1), grain harvest index (37.3%) and total forage yield (15.0 ton DM ha-1). Hybrid effect occurred for variables of mineral composition of harvest residues. With the exception of calcium, a rise in cutting height from 15 to 55 cm failed to increase the concentration of minerals in the residue. The amount of organic matter and mineral...

Restrain of birds with bottles of polyethylene terephthalate, tested in red-browed from the Atlantic Forest Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Bianchi,M.A.F.; Mello,R.H.; Bianchi,H.; Bermond Júnior,J.L.; Ibrahim,P.A.F..
In wild animals, containment is the moment of greatest stress caused by the investigator to the animal due to its natural resistance to the moment of capture, handling, containment and transport, attitudes frankly contrary to his nature. In birds, the restraint must meet certain criteria in order to control the animal's movements, avoiding trauma at the same time that you need to keep your breathing amplitude. The high risk of death during the restraint of these animals raised the need to design a device, from bottles of poly ethylene terephthalate (PET), for containing parrots-browed Amazon (Amazona rhodocorytha), a parrot endemic to the Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil, and endangered with extinction, which allowed the observation of respiration,...

Zinc, copper and manganese availability in soils treated with alkaline sewage sludge from Paraná state (Brazil) Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Dalpisol,Maristela; Serrat,Beatriz Monte; Motta,Antonio Carlos Vargas; Poggere,Giovana Clarice; Bittencourt,Simone; Barbosa,Julierme Zimmer.
ABSTRACT In Paraná, most of the sludge generated in sewage treatment plants is subjected to the prolonged alkaline stabilization process. Although it is known that the alkaline sewage sludge contains micronutrients such as Zn, Cu and Mn, little is known about the availability of these elements in soils treated with this type of sewage sludge. Thus, the objective of the study was to evaluate the influence of alkaline sewage sludge from Paraná on Zn, Cu and Mn availability in soils. Twenty sewage treatment plants were selected throughout Paraná, where alkaline sewage sludge and the most representative agricultural soil of the each region were collected. Each soil was incubated for 60 days with alkaline sewage sludge rates (0, 10, 20, 40, and 80 Mg ha-1) from...

Agronomic parameters assessment in hydroponic tomato crop Horticultura Brasileira
Herrero,Baudilio; Blázquez,María Elena; Cristóbal,María Dolores.
In this study we present the results of a comparative analysis of nutrient solution (NS) recycling and non-recycling treatments in hydroponic tomato crop. The established aims are to evaluate water consumption, pH and conductivity variation along the productive cycle in both treatments, to establish the differences in fruit yield and to assess the viability of the recycling system. Watering times and drained nutrient solution volume were counted on a daily basis. Emitter and drained water samples from both treatments were analyzed once per week in the Agricultural Institute of Fraisoro (Gipuzkoa). Tomato samples were collected, weighed and measured three times per week once the harvest had started. There was an 8% reduction in water supply; irrigation...

Effect of recycling on mechanical behaviour of biocompostable flax/poly(L-lactide) composites ArchiMer
Le Duigou, Antoine; Pillin, Isabelle; Bourmaud, Alain; Davies, Peter; Baley, Christophe.
The biocompostability of natural fibre-reinforced biopolymers, also known as biocomposites, makes them an attractive alternative to glass fibre-reinforced petrochemical polymers. The aim of this work is to study the capacity of flax/PLLA (poly(L-lactide)) biocomposite (20% and 30% fibres by weight) to be recycled. Mechanical properties were evaluated initially, and shown to be similar to those of glass/PP and superior to hemp/PP and sisal/PP composites. Then after repeated injection cycles tensile properties were shown to be conserved until the third cycle. Matrix degradation and fibre aspect ratio were followed using molecular weight measurements, thermal and rheological analyses, image analysis of sections and SEM fractography. These techniques revealed...

Managing the analytical challenges related to micro- and nanoplastics in the environment and food: filling the knowledge gaps ArchiMer
Alexy, Pavol; Anklam, Elke; Emans, Ton; Furfari, Antonino; Galgani, Francois; Hanke, Georg; Koelmans, Albert; Pant, Rana; Saveyn, Hans; Sokull Kluettgen, Birgit.
This paper identifies knowledge gaps on the sustainability and impacts of plastics and presents some recommendations from an expert group that met at a special seminar organised by the European Commission at the end of 2018. The benefits of plastics in society are unquestionable, but there is an urgent need to better manage their value chain. The recently adopted European Strategy for Plastics stressed the need to tackle the challenges related to plastics with a focus on plastic litter including microplastics. Microplastics have been detected mainly in the marine environment, but also in freshwater, soil and air. Based on today’s knowledge they may also be present in food products. Although nanoplastics have not yet been detected, it can be assumed that...

Analyse du cycle de vie d’un biocomposite ArchiMer
Le Duigou, A.; Davies, Peter; Baley, C..
In addition to the impact on climate change resulting from the use of non renewable resources [1], the depletion of existing fossil fuel sources is inevitable. A major change of strategy is required. This article presents an analysis of a Flax fibre/PLLA biocomposite life cycle compared to common glass fibre reinforced polyester composites from manufacturing to mechanical design and end-of-life. Environmental impacts have been assessed by Standardized method called Life Cycle Analysis (ISO 14044). Flax fibre/PLLA biocomposites manufactured by film stacking have, for similar mass, tensile modulus close to that of Glass/Polyester. Besides being compostable at end of life, biocomposites have been proved to be recyclable which makes it possible to keep the...

Evolution divergente de cultures phytoplanctoniques marines en relation avec la qualité des enrichissements ArchiMer
Divanach, P.; Sube, J..
Four marine phytoplanctonic cultures from natural inoculum of Nannodito sp. have been submitted to different fertilizers in identical light and temperature conditions. The composition of enrichments has been studied to introduce Nitrogen as comparative factor. One tank without nutrients and three enriched cultures, the first only with sodium nitrate, the second with "Conway medium" and the last in which nutrients were provided by convenient dilution of "foam", have been followed for physical, chemical, biological parameters during three months. Temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, optical density, particulate matters, Organic Carbon, Nitrogen, Phos phorus, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, metal traces and biological parameters were analysed...

Recyclage de déchets d'aquaculture marine - Caractéristique d'un effluent de pisciculture : l'écume ArchiMer
Divanach, P.; Sube, J..
Previously to its use as culturing medium for algae, we have studied the various characteristics of the sewage extracted from marine fish rearing ponds, through a purificating system called "foamer". Qualitatively, this sewage differs from the sea water which produced it on various points : It is richer than the water in Organic Carbon, Organic Nitrogen, Ammonia, particulate matters, phosphorus and varied metals. However the concentration factors are not constant and they change in time. This sewage is toxic for some group of animals and this toxicity varies with the concentration but also the age of the product. Finally, it is eutrophicant and this richness enables to the growth of algae for long periods but the boundary between toxicity and eutrophy Is...

Optimal feedback strategies for bacterial growth with degradation, recycling, and effect of temperature ArchiMer
Yegorov, Ivan; Mairet, Francis; Gouze, Jean-luc.
Mechanisms of bacterial adaptation to environmental changes are of great interest for both fundamental biology and engineering applications. In this work, we consider a continuous-time dynamic problem of resource allocation between metabolic and gene expression machineries for a self-replicating prokaryotic cell population. In compliance with evolutionary principles, the criterion is to maximize the accumulated structural biomass. In the model, we include both the degradation of proteins into amino acids and the recycling of the latter (ie, using as precursors again). On the basis of the analytical investigation of our problem by Pontryagin's maximum principle, we develop a numerical method to approximate the switching curve of the optimal feedback control...

Towards a paradigm for the convergence of production, marketing and environmental protection in the field of the organic olive oil production chain- Conclusions from the BIOLMED project Organic Eprints
Ehaliotis, C; Martinis, A; Minotou, Ch.
The majority of innovations pioneered within/for the organic olive oil production (OOOP) chain may, and are, increasingly becoming, adopted by the conventional olive oil production chain, especially regarding cultivation, inputs related to plant/ecosystem protection and trade/promotion of specialized high quality products. Therefore the OOOP-chain may become a pioneering paradigm, for the implementation and convergence of agricultural production, marketing, sustainable rural development and environmental/biodiversity protection EU policies in the Mediterranean. Moreover, it appears that OOOP systems are increasingly becoming model systems for developing, applying and evaluating innovations that may have far more general applicability for Mediterranean...
