Evaluation of Valiantzas ET0 Equations against FAO56-PM Model in Indian Semi-arid Climatic Conditions CIGR Journal
TOMAR, ARVIND SINGH.
In this study, performance of three forms of Valiantzas ET0 equations namely, (i) requiring full meteorological dataset, (ii) not requiring wind speed data, and (iii) not requiring both wind speed & relative humidity data for Indian semi-arid Hissar and Parbhani districts in comparison to widely accepted FAO-56 PM model was evaluated in terms of different statistical indices and their ranking based on GPI values. All Valiantzas ET0 equations requiring full meteorological dataset under-estimated FAO56-PM estimates in the range of 9.10 to 21.84% at Hissar while they over-estimated it in the range of 0.98 to 8.32% at Parbhani district. Valiantzas equations not requiring wind speed data under-estimated FAO56-PM ET0 values in the range of 3.90 to 34.56%...

Performance of three empirical reference evapotranspiration models under three sky conditions using two solar radiation estimation methods at Ilorin, Nigeria CIGR Journal
Chukwuemeka Joachin Ejieji; University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria.
An existing solar radiation model developed at Ilorin which was found to be more reliable than Angstrom-type and Hargreaves solar radiation equations was used in the FAO Penman-Monteith reference evapotranspiration model (FAOPM) to obtain daily reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0) for a 32-year (1970 to 2001) period.  The number of days having all the required input meteorological data was 9335.  The sky conditions of the days were classified as clear, partially cloudy or cloudy depending on the cloudiness index, i.e. the ratio of diffuse solar radiation to total solar radiation.  The ET0 values obtained with FAOPM were compared with predictions of three simpler empirical ET0 models, namely, the Hargreaves (HGRV), Jensen and Haise (JHSE) and...

Coffee crop coefficient for precision irrigation based on leaf area index Bragantia
Pereira,Antonio Roberto; Camargo,Marcelo Bento Paes de; Villa Nova,Nilson Augusto.
Crop coefficient (Kc) for coffee plantations was found to be linearly related to the leaf area index (L) up to 3, i.e., Kc = b L. The basic assumption is that for irrigated trees the water use per unit leaf area (ET LA) is equal to the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) expressed also on a unit leaf area basis of the reference surface (ET LA = ETo/Lo). As recommended by FAO-56 the leaf area index (Lo) for the hypothetical reference surface (grass) is equal to 2.88, then the most likely value is b = Lo-1 = 2.88-1 = 0.347. However, for L > 3 (completely covered ground surface) Kc decreased from a peak value (~1.05) tending to an asymptotic low value around 0.7 for L > 6, but the linear model gives unrealistic Kc estimates; tentatively the...

EMPIRICAL METHODS FOR ESTIMATING REFERENCE SURFACE NET RADIATION FROM SOLAR RADIATION REA
Flumignan,Danilton L.; Rezende,Maiara K. A.; Comunello,Eder; Fietz,Carlos R..
ABSTRACT Net radiation (Rn) of reference surface is important information that has many applications, but its measurement is rare due to the high cost of the sensor and the complexity involved on the measurement. Therefore, estimate Rn from another variable is desirable, as from solar radiation (Rs); however, standard methods used are complex, making interesting the use of simplified methodologies. Considering these aspects, the present study aimed to set two empirical methods to estimate Rn from Rs for Dourados region, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. One method was based on mathematical modeling (Gauss Method). The other one was a more simplified and practical approach (Practical Method) comprising the determination of fixed monthly conversion factors. It was...

HS Cal software for the calibration of the Hargreaves-Samani equation PAB
Ferreira,Lucas Borges; Cunha,Fernando França da; Sediyama,Gilberto Chohaku; Campos,Flavio Bastos.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to develop a software (HS Cal) to calibrate the Hargreaves-Samani equation for specific periods of the year, in global, seasonal, and monthly time scales, as well as to compare the performance of calibrated and non-calibrated equations. The software was developed in order to use raw data provided by Banco de Dados Meteorológicos para Ensino e Pesquisa (BDMEP). All calibrations outperformed the original Hargreaves-Samani equation, especially with the use of seasonal and monthly calibrations. The HS Cal software can easily calibrate the Hargreaves-Samani equation, allowing the identification of the best form of this equation for a given site.

Irrigation depths and yield response factor in zucchini cultivation AGRIAMBI
Azevedo,Benito M. de; Fernandes,Carlos N. V.; Vasconcelos,Denise V.; Garcia,Amparo C.; Figueredo Júnior,Luis G. M. de; Viana,Thales V. de A..
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different irrigation depths on productive performance and yield response of zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.). A field trial was carried out in the experimental area of the Meteorological Station of the Federal University of Ceará, CE, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with six treatments and four replicates. The treatments adopted were: 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180% of the reference evapotranspiration (ETo), estimated by Penman-Monteith (EToPM) and applied by drip irrigation. Fruit weight, number of fruits, fruit length, fruit diameter, pulp thickness, soluble solids and yield were analyzed, as well as water use efficiency (WUE). The methodology proposed by FAO Bulletin...
