Analysis of Regional Differences of Energy Footprint in China Based on STIRPAT Model AgEcon
Li, Qi; Han, Ya-fen; Chen, Jian-yong.
On the basis of the previous researches and the ecological footprint theory, we use the cross-sectional data of Chinese energy consumption in 2007 to calculate the regional differences of energy consumption footprint of 30 provinces in China; by using the method of EEF calculation method, we calculate the regional distribution of EFI and analyze its law; through the construction of STIRPAT model, we reveal the relationship between EEF and factors of population and economy. The results show that provinces with higher EFF are mainly concentrate in the Middle Eastern China, which have a developed industry, such as Shandong, Hebei, and Liaoning Province and so on. However, provinces with lower EFF mainly concentrated in Western China, which have a relatively...

European Food Quality Policy: The Importance of Geographical Indications, Organic Certification and Food Quality Assurance Schemes in European Countries AgEcon
Becker, Tilman C..
In the early 1990s reform of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy led to a change in emphasis away from price into policies to promote rural development, in part through improvements to food quality. Geographic indicators are only one of a range of EU policies designed to foster these goals. Geographic indicators are put within the context of the wider quality enhancement policies that include quality assurance schemes and organic production. There appears to be considerable regional differences within the EU when it comes to the use of the various quality-enhancing policies available. The member states of the EU can be grouped into four different clusters, each characterized by a different quality policy strategy.

Comparative analysis of micro-regions in the northern Great Plain Region AgEcon
Kiraly, Zsolt; Szmolka, Andrea.
Our short paper examines the region of the Northern Great Plain, mainly due to its disadvantaged situation. Comparative analysis of the micro-regions in this particular region was implemented to identify possible causes for differentiation between the micro-regions. Finding these causes would then help us find more effective ways to address regional inequalities, currently one of the central issues not only in Hungary but throughout Eastern Europe. The methods used for such analysis included statistical indicators, such as difference in migration rates, rate of unemployment, number of incorporated enterprises per 1000 inhabitants etc., as well as the principal component analysis and the currently applicable categorisation system for micro-regions. The...

SPATIAL LABOUR MARKET PROCESSES AgEcon
Csehne Papp, Imola.
After the change of the political system, at the beginning of the 90’s, the territorial differences in Hungary deepened obviously. Approximately 1.5 millions jobs were terminated, the production in the former industrial centres declined, and the reorganization of the economical system started. All these afflicted the areas with the highest working power, so the crises in the different sectors of economy widened out into regional crises. Losing the Eastern markets in agriculture also destabilized the former structural and productional system, which were even deepened by the political decisions concerning the reorganization of the proprietorships. During a few years the rate of employment decreased dramatically, unemployment skyrocketed, and by 1993 it...

TEXTILE MANUFACTURERS' MARKET VALUATION OF COTTON FIBER ATTRIBUTES AgEcon
Chen, Changping; Ethridge, Don E.; Fletcher, Stanley M..
This study provides an analysis of the price-quality relationships of U.S. cotton using primary data collected from textile manufacturers, the end users of fiber. Hedonic prices of fiber attributes are estimated for three production regions - West, South Central, and South - over the 1992-95 study period. Results indicate that cotton price is determined by quality attributes and nonquality factors in the end-use market. There are similarities and differences in valuation of fiber attributes based on region of origin of the cotton.

ANALYSIS OF THE ROMANIAN AGRICULTURE IN THE PERIOD OF TRANSITION, BASED ON THE NATIONAL ACCOUNTS AgEcon
Vincze, Maria-Magdolna; Madaras, Szilard.
The purpose of this paper is to present the changes occurred during the transition period in the role and place of agriculture in the Romanian economy. The main methodological instruments used are the national Input-Output Tables for 1999-2004 published in the National Accounts. We have also used figures from the Regional Accounts to put into evidence regional differences in total GDP and the GDP of agriculture. Input-Output analysis is an analytical tool recognized as one of the most significant contributions to the economic theory and applications, but rarely used in agricultural economics for quantifying the structural changes of the economic activities. The first part of the paper presents the general equilibrium situation of the Romanian economy and...
