Rice gall midge (GM) is an important insect pest in the upper north of Thailand i.e. Tak, Phrae, Lampang, Nan, Phayao, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces. Severe infestations generally occur during September to October. Prior to this study, only MN62M and RD4, the two glutinous rice varieties were recommended as resistant ones. Hence, the non-glutinous type with resistance to GM is in urgent need. The research has been conducted for 12 years during 2001 - 2012. The cross was made between PRE92039-3-1-2-1 and SPT82022-PRE-26-3-2-GM-6. Populations were selected continuously from F2 to F6 after which study and evaluation were carried out in successive steps from observational nursery, intra-station yield trial, inter-station yield trial and...

Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) and biotype-specific markers were used for identification of genetic diversity and biotypes of rice gall midge, Orseolia oryzae in Thailand. Pupae and adults of the gall midges were collected from 19 field locations of 12 provinces during 2006 - 2007. Total of 242 polymorphic AFLP bands were generated from 12 selective primer pairs. Cluster analysis, performed by the UPGMA, separated the gall midge populations into four distinct groups. To identify the biotype, five specific-biotype markers were used to characterize the collected gall midges. Two biotypes of the gall midges, biotype 2 and 5, were identified from all populations used in this research. The results showed that the genetic diversity was not...

ประเมินความเสียหายและระดับเศรษฐกิจของแมลงบั่วที่เข้าทำลายข้าว พันธุ์ต้านทานและอ่อนแอ Thai Agricultural
Pannipa Yajai; Anchalee Takham; Kulchana Ketsuwan.
Gall midge is one of the most important insect pest of rice in Thailand. The lavae caused severe crop damage during the vegetative stages (seedling to panicle initiative) by producing tube-like called “silver shoot” or “onion leaf” that prevent panicle production. Thus, understanding the economic threshold level is an important prerequisite for determining control measure. This study was conducted to estimate percentage of damage and yield loss by gall midge infestation. The popular rice gall midge resistant and susceptible varieties were used to study the number of gall midge infested that can be reached to economic threshold level. The experimental design was split-split plot in RCB having rice variety as main plot (resistant varieties: RD53, MN 62 M,...

ปฏิกิริยาของข้าวเจ้าสายพันธุ์ PRE01017-10-1-1-1 ต่อแมลงบั่วในเขตภาคเหนือตอนบนในสภาพโรงเรือนปฏิบัติการ Thai Agricultural
Pannipa Yajai; Preeda Siangyai.
Reaction of PRE01017-10-1-1-1 rice promising line to gall midge (GM) resistance was evaluated in green house nursery at Phrae Rice Research Center during 2007-201. It was found that this promising line showed resistance (R) to high resistance (HR) to GM which collected from 5 areas, i.e., Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, and Phrae provinces. Furthermore, in 2012, the biotype of gall midge from 5 areas were studied and found that they were divided into two biotypes: 1) the gall midge collected from Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai, which PRE01017-10-1-1-1 showed highly resistant (HR) score to GM, and 2) the gall midge collected from Chiang Rai, Nan and Phrae which PRE01017-10-1-1-1 showed resistant (R) score to GM. The mechanism of resistance in...

การเพาะเลี้ยงอับละอองเรณูข้าวเพื่อสร้างสายพันธุ์แท้ให้ต้านทานแมลงบั่ว Thai Agricultural
Pannipa Yajai; Noppadol Somna.
To improved rice gall midge (GM) resistance by F1 progenies’ anther culture, conducted at Phrae Rice Research Center (PRE_RRC) in 2009 dry and wet season. Sixteen crosses from irrigated rice R&D program and three crosses from rainfed rice R&D program were culture in N6 formula media to induced callus formation in dark room, 20-250C temperature and 2000 Lux light intensity for 1-2 month duration. Followed by MS media culture (Murashige and Skoog, 1962) in 2000 Lux light intensity for 1-2 month duration. Then, the plantlets were transplanted to nursery trial and 53 progenies of 5 IR crosses, and 8 progenies of 3 RR crosses were gathered and planted to observational trial in the field during 2010 wet season, together with GM reaction nursery at...
