Rice production cost reduction model of village community project was conducted in 2013, at Moo 2, Huaikamin sub district, Nong Khae district, Saraburi province. It aims to provide farmer to obtain knowledge and understanding the process of reducing the cost of rice production and developing the capacity of farmers in sustainable rice production. A study on ecological engineering on rice to develop sustainable means to reducing crop losses due to rice pest outbreaks were taken in wet season, 2011 at Chiangrai Rice Research Center and in farmer’s field at Phan District, Chiangrai Province. The main objective was to compare between of Ecological Engineering (EE) means (EE site) and farmer’s practices (control site) as well as the effects on numbers of pest and natural enemies. The numbers of species and amount of each insect pest and natural enemies were collected by visual counting, sweep net, yellow pan trap, egg bait trap and D-vac machine. Chiang Mai Rice Research Center has carried out a project on the early warning system for major rice pests in Chiang Mai since 2011. The project consisted of 3 activities; 1) Rice blast forecasting 2) Light trap counting and 3) Field survey for rice pests. Blast risk was indicated by BUS (Blast Unit of Severity) obtaining from the values calculated from the weather data on courtesy of Chiang Mai Meteorological Station. Results revealed a risk for rice blast epidemics at seedling, tillering, booting and flowering stages. These coincided with rice blast epidemics at some surveyed fields and farmer’s field epidemics recorded in 3 areas i.e. M.4 Sunttisuk, Doi Lo district, M.4 Sankhang, Sanpatong district and M.6 Sansai, Phrao district.
