Inheritance patterns and identification of microsatellite markers linked to the rice blast resistance in BC2F1 population of rice breeding Bragantia

The BC2F1 population was derived from a cross between rice variety, MR219 (susceptible to blast) and Pongsu Seribu 1 (resistant to blast). The objectives of this research were to know the inheritance pattern of blast resistance and to identify the linked markers associated with blast resistance in BC2F1 population. Sixteen microsatellite markers were found as polymorphic between the parents related to blast resistant genes (Pi-genes). Among the selected blast resistant linked markers, two markers RM6836 and RM8225 showed expected testcross ratio (1:1) for single-gene model in the BC2F1 population with the association between resistant and susceptible progeny. Effect of rice variety and milling fraction on the starch gelatinization and rheological properties of rice milk Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the rheological properties of rice milk produced from raw rice including rice varieties and milling fractions. Rice milk was prepared from two rice varieties, which were Arhent (long grain) and Bengal (medium grain) using brown, head and broken fractions of the two cultivars used. Gelatinization temperatures for each rice variety, milling fraction, and rheological behaviors of rice milk were examined. Flow behaviors of rice milk were significantly affected by the variety and milling fractions of raw rice. Luempua is a dark-purple glutinous upland rice belongs to the Mong hilltribe. The origin prior to the time of seed purification was the mountainous area 450 m above sea level. The variety is normally grown in the wet season under upland condition. To obtain the information for appropriate time of sowing and growing with water as for the lowland sowing, Luempua was sown by transplanting in the cement container every 15 days from 2010-2013 at Phitsanulok Rice Research center (PSL). Results revealed that the most appropriate time of sowing is from mid to the end of May and the lowland areas especially those prone to Brown planthopper infestation are not recommended. This research aims to study the effect of planting dates on the variation of some important agronomic characteristics of photoperiod sensitive cultivars. The experiment was conducted at Nakorn Ratchasima Rice Research Centre during wet season 2011-2013 by using a split plot in RCB design with 3 replicates. Main plots consisted of 5 planting dates; May 5, June 5, July 5, August 5, and September 5. Sub plots consisted of 4 photoperiod sensitive rice cultivars; i.e. KDML105, RD45, RD6, and RD12. การพัฒนาข้าวพันธุ์บางแตนให้ต้านทานเพลี้ยกระโดดสีน้ำตาลโดยใช้เครื่องหมายโมเลกุล Thai Agricultural

Bahng Taen is a non-glutinous, non-photoperiod sensitive, short duration and high yielding rice variety. This variety showed resistance against brown planthopper (BPH) in the Eastern region, but the resistance has decreased drastically. Therefore, marker-assisted backcrossing was applied to improve BPH resistance by introgression of a Bph3 resistant gene from PTB33 and Rathu Heenati into Bahng Taen. Two SSR markers, RM 170 for Bahng Taen with PTB33 crossing and RM 190 for Bahng Taen with Rathu Heenati crossing, were used in combination with plant type selection to obtain the target plants with Bph3 gene. Evaluation of the ability of rice varieties in resistance to brown plant hopper was performed using seed box screen test. The brown plant hopers (BPH) were collected from rice paddy fields in Phitsanulok, Chainat, and Ang Thong Province. From cluster analysis at level 0.8, there were three different groups classified by the different level of rice plant damage after treated by the insects. The three different level of damage were graded by the ability in resistance to the BPH as resistance, moderately resistance and susceptible. Considering in biotype of the BPH, the results indicated that there were variety of BPH biotypes in each samples collected from the three different provinces.
