A sedimentar core collected at Santo Antônio da Patrulha, Rio Grande do Sul State, southmost Brazil, was submitted to pollen analysis to provide the vegetational history of this region, and the paleoecological and paleoclimatic changes. A total of 98 taxa of palynomorphs was identified from 35 subsamples. Three radiocarbonic datings were obtained along a section of 115 cm depth, including the basal age of 4730 ± 50 yr BP. Pollen diagrams and cluster analysis were performed based on palynomorphs frequencies, demonstrating five distinct phases (SAP-I to SAP-V), which reflected different paleoecological conditions. The predominance of plants associated with grasslands in the phase SAP-I suggests warm and dry climate conditions. A gradual increasing of... |

Taxonomic survey of representatives of genera Cryptoglena Ehrenberg emend. Kosmala & Zakry´s, Monomorphina Mereschkowsky emend. Kosmala & Zakry´s and Phacus Dujardin (Euglenaceae, Euglenophyceae) of a reservoir in the municipality of Triunfo (30°02'15" S, 51°13'13" W), state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. Samplings were performed at two stations during 14 consecutive months, from February 1995 to March 1996. Sixteen taxa including nine species, three varieties that are not typical of their respective species and one taxonomic forma also not typical of Phacus, two species of Monomorphina and one of Cryptoglena were identified. Phacuspseudobicarinatus is described as a new species. Phacuslongicauda (Ehrenberg) Dujardin var.... |

Micropogonias furnieri (Desmarest, 1823) from the coast of Rio Grande do Sul State were examined and six trematodes species were recovered: Aponurus laguncula Looss, 1907, A. pyriformis (Linton, 1910), Monascus filiformis (Rudolphi, 1819), Opecoeloides catarinensis Amato, 1983, O. stenosomae Amato, 1983, and Pachycreadium gastrocotylum (Manter, 1940). All species are registered for the first time in Rio Grande do Sul State and M. furnieri represents a new host record for A. laguncula, A. pyriformis and M. filiformis. |
