Natural diet of Neohelice granulata (Dana, 1851) (Crustacea, Varunidae) in two salt marshes of the estuarine region of the Lagoa dos Patos lagoon BABT
Barutot,Roberta Araujo; D'Incao,Fernando; Fonseca,Duane Barros.
Natural diet of Neohelice granulata in two salt marshes of Lagoa dos Patos, RS were studied. Sampling was performed seasonally and crabs were captured by hand by three persons during one hour, fixed in formaldehyde (4%) during 24 h, transferred to alcohol (70%). Each foregut was weighed and repletion level was determined. Differences between sexes in the frequencies of occurrence of items were tested by χ2test. A total of 452 guts were analyzed. Quali-quantitative analyses were calculated following the method of relative frequency occurrence and relative frequency of the points. At both sites, for both sexes and in all seasons, the main food items were sediment, Spartina sp. and plant detritus. The highest values of mean repletion index were estimated for...

Morpho-sedimentary evidence of Holocene coastal changes near the mouth of the Gironde and on the Medoc Peninsula, SW France ArchiMer
Pontee, Ni; Tastet, Jp; Masse, L.
The Medoc Peninsula is a triangular area of land between the Atlantic Ocean on the west and the Gironde estuary on the east. The Gironde, orientated SE-NW, is the largest estuary in France. On the Medoc Peninsula Holocene sediments cover a substratum of Tertiary limestones and Plio-Pleistocene fluvial terraces. The Gironde originated as an incised valley during the Weichselian glacio-eustatic fall (100 000-18 000 B.P.) and has acted as a sink for fine sediment throughout the Holocene sea level rise (SLR) (18 000 B.P. onwards). Conversely, the Atlantic littoral zone, characterised by sandy beaches and dunes, has been subjected to erosion throughout the Holocene transgression. The incised valley of the present Gironde was inundated by the sea approximately...

Bilan azoté des flux tidaux d'un marais salé à végétation halophyte ArchiMer
Silva, Celine; Raillard, Marieke; Bodoy, Alain; Hussenot, Jerome.
In spring 2001, during a complete tidal cycle, nitrogen fluxes between the sea and the salt marsh were calculated. The marsh (1198 m2) covered in 75 % by halophytes, with 46 % by the sea purslane, Halimione portulacoides. The nitrogen balance shows that the salt marsh imports nitrogen micro-particules (2,09 g) by sedimentation, exports dissolved nitrogen (4,13 g), and that the macro-element part (-1,02 g in fauna and vegetable refuse) in the global mass balance (3,06 g) is not unimportant. Nitrogen fluxes are mainly under inorganic form for the incoming flux (mainly NO3), and under organic form for the outgoing flux. The halophyte vegetation of this marsh seems to play thus a dominating role in the tidal nitrogen exchanges, by a mechanical action on the...

Intégration des données de l'atlas des marais atlantiques alimentés en eau de mer dans un système d'information à référence spatiale ArchiMer
Loubersac, Lionel; Manaud, Francois; Loarer, Ronan; Kerdreux, Michel; Durand, Christophe.
This paper describes a method that refers to the integration of analogic data of an Atlantic salt marsh atlas into a GIS. So the steps of the method are developed after a description of the original data sources in the form of analogic thematic cartography and associated text. They include digitalization, geometric corrections, topology and attributes definition, hotlinks setting up between graphics, texts and images, information layers crossing and spatial analyses. Four main results are presented and discussed: (a) the atlas digital form presentation, (b) objects selection and theme surface computation in the case of salt exploitation, (c) salt marsh identification versus inland fresh water marshes, (d) intersection between digital atlas objects and...

New host record of Bracon intercessor Nees f. megasomides Strand (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), a parasite of Agapanthia villosoviridescens DeGeer (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) in salt marshes Naturalis
Achterberg, C. van; Hemminga, M.A.; Soelen, J. van.
Bracon intercessor f. megasomides Strand, 1928 (Braconidae: Braconinae) is recorded for the first time as a parasite of Agapanthia villosoviridescens DeGeer (Cerambycidae). This form is redescribed and illustrated; both species and form are new to the fauna of The Netherlands.
